What We Once Were

"Thank you for tonight I kind of had fun." Tobin said when we arrived back to the schools parking lot.
"Kind of?" I asked immediately worried I did something wrong.

"I mean I would have enjoyed it more
If you asked me on another date but that has yet to happen." She said getting out and walking to her car.

Should I ask her now that she told me she wants another date? Or do I play it cool? What does she want me to do? Chill Alex just chill, what does Tobin always say 'Sometimes being chill is the best thing to do'.

"Hey Tobin!"
"Yo!" She yelled back
"Do you think you'd want to go out again tomorrow?" I asked hopefully.
"I would but I don't go out with girls who are already dating someone." She winked and in her car. She left me in the parking lot with a small smile on my face. Maybe things could workout for the best this time.

"Dude what's going on with you and Tobin?" Kelley asked me the next day in history.
"Nothing." I responded nonchalantly.
"Now that's a load of crap because I know for a fact you guys went out on a date." She said with a small smirk.
"Good Ol' Tobin is my best friend too you know."

"Does that mean you don't want to slit my throat anymore?" I asked hopefully.

"Eh maybe, don't don't anything stupid again though."
"I won't this stupid phase is over now, I just really, really love her Kelley. Like I know we're in high school still but I can picture us growing old together." I admitted and smiled a little at the thought of Tobin teaching our child how to play soccer. Only if she want that with you though. And you still have to break up with Servando. Where is he today? He wasn't at lunch so as soon as I see him I need to break it off.

"Good now pay attention so Ms. McGilbert will stop staring us down."

"Good Tobin! That was a beautiful pass and Alex that was a fantastic finish! I guess our discussion yesterday helped you guys workout your differences?"
"Yes coach." I said before jogging back to my position.
After I got a couple more shots off Pia blew the whistle.
"Alright ladies bring it in! So as you know or have noticed Tobin and Alex are on good terms right now. Now let's thank them for finally getting over their egos and being adults about it." The girl clapped and hollered. I looked at Tobin and she was turning red.
"Now I have a couple of announcements. First I'd like to introduce you to your new Co-Captains, Tobin and Alex. An second we have a district game tomorrow against who?"
"East Mountain!" We all yelled.
"Who are we going to beat tomorrows ?"
"East Mountain!"
"Alright captains lead them in call."

"Brahmans on three!" I yelled
"One! Two! Three! Brahmans!" We all yelled. I went to go retrieve my water bottle from the bench when I felt a family figure walking next to me.
"Hey Toby."
"Hey sexy Lexy." She said slightly bumping me.
"Oh God never say that again." I said laughing.
"What?" She said joining me laughing.
"Nothing you're just too cute." I smiled sincerely.  There was a tint of red appearing on her face.

"So when is Daimond Bar' so famous Alex Morgan going to take me out on a date again? That is if it was a date."

"Well you see I would really enjoy taking her out tonight? But tonight I have to fix the biggest mistake of my life. I'm going to break up with Servando today Tobin. And I know we will never be the same perfect couple, but I want to give us another shot. And if you're not ready yet that's okay because I can wait. I'll wait for as long as I need to, I just want an us again."
I reached out and took one of her hands in mine. She looked hesitant at first but she patted the top of my hand with her other hand.
"Lets just start over again. A clean sheet, but we can still use the old memories you know. I just want us to be happy again, like completely happy. Because I'm not going to lie the last time I have felt completely happy was when we made love before I left. These past two months have been pure hell watching you be happy with someone else. It hurt seeing you two in the hallways kissing or holding hands. It hurt so much that I actually um... I..."
