We walked out of the recovery room into a white unremarkable hallway. We turned left and walked past chrome doors with no window. The whole place smelled like disinfectant and medicine. As we walked I thought of the changes in my body.
When I walked my stride was longer, more elegant. And it felt effortless, like it didn't matter if I was in motion or not; I was totally relaxed. And now that I'm thinking about it, my footsteps made hardly a sound on the linoleum floor, while the guy escorting me sounded like an elephant. I was soo full of energy!! I felt like I could walk on my hands, do cartwheels and jumping jacks, run around the state and still not be tired, hell maybe the country and still not be tired!
There was a odd thumping noise in the background of my thoughts that was really ticking me off. Thu-thump Thu-thump Thu-thump. I looked over to the guy , about to ask about the noise when I saw his pulse. I could see the blood pumping in his veins! And it was pumping in time to the thumping noise. Oh. My. God! I could hear his heart beat! I could even SEE IT!!! This was like some vampire crap! But I didn't want his blood, did I? No! No I did NOT!
We came to the end of the hall to a door leading outside. The sunshine irritated my eyes, probably because of the dimness of the florescence. We stepped out of the building and I gasped. The guy must have heard me cause he turned, oh right, I'm suppose to be like a robot. This is going to be hard. BUT IT LOOKED LIKE A HIGH SCHOOL!! Seriously it had buildings made of brick scattered around the grounds. The only thing different from a regular high school was the lake. In front of all the scattered buildings was a huge crystal blue lake. Surrounding the lake and the campus was a dark foreboding forest. I could see massive mountains looming in the distance, with bluish snow covered peaks. I saw no students milling around like a normal high school either and I wondered what was really going on inside the buildings.
Walking done the path to the building I noticed that there was no animals around. No birds were singing in the trees, no squirrels were running around looking for food. It was strange, everything was totally silent. Do the animals no something I should? We came up to a building with a big white number 4 on the shiny metal door. The man escorting me pulled out a card and dragged it through the security swipe thing and the door clicked open. As we walked inside I noticed there was a place to swipe a card inside too. Great, I was going to need to steal one of those cards to get in or out.
The hall inside the building looked like a dorm hallway so far. There was ugly carpeting with 'practical' patterns on it. The doors were spaced out and numbered, made out of treated wood there were ten of them that I could see. The hall turned sharply to the right and on the corner was a door leading to a stairwell. The Guy, as I was starting to call him, led me to stairwell door at the end of the hall. We went all the way up to the third floor (and all the floors looked the same.) The top floor only had one door all the way at the end we stopped in front of the door. it was number 26
When The Guy opened the door my jaw hit the ground. I couldn't believe my eyes. I quickly hid my shock under a mask of indifference and took in my surroundings. It was like having a house! There was a big spacious living room with a nice entertainment center, complete with flat screen T.V and huge stereo system. The couches and recliners were black leather; the floors were a rich brown wood. Off to the right of me was a kitchen all black and chrome, matching the living room scheme. Past the living room there was a door leading to who knows where, cause it looked like all the bedrooms were in the hall across from said door.
The dorm, though, was not why my jaw dropped. It was because of whom I saw, Sam, Molly, and Paul were standing in the living room. My brain refused to except that this was the group I met on the plane.
