"Cuff 'em." He ordered the men behind and above him.
We had one person each cuffing us and an additional one pointing a rifle at us. They pushed us forward and escorted us inside. We went down a small flight of stairs through the scarlet darkness. Next, we walk through a hot, steaming mid-size hallway.
"I can't believe your boat's this big." Jason said.
"Not my boat," The kid corrected. "My dad's."
"Where are you taking us?" Eiffel asked.
"Since it's late...and my dad's already in a bad mood, I decided to just let you guys stay here for the night."
We stopped next on a cracked wooden door on our left side.
"This is your room." He said, his face still very serious. "Get in unless you wanna be shot in the foot."
Man, this kid is a monster.
"Move it!" The man behind us commanded and pushed the four of us inside.
"But what about the handcuffs?" Jason yelled. Unfortunately, they closed the door on us.
Nothing to see here. But I see a string hanging above us. I jump high and pull it down by biting it. The light bulb flickers brightly, blinding us a bit. The taste of the string was dusty. I spit some out.
"Great." Patrick said with a disappointed tone.
We skimmed the whole room. The walls were so easy to look at because they were so close. So close that it should've described as confined. I swallow in anxiety. This is a living nightmare. My breathing was heard in the room.
"That's just great." Eiffel complained sarcastically. "Obviously they think sleeping in these shelves is so much better!" She yelled in purpose for the men to hear. But I think they abandoned us.
Patrick kicks the door twice. "Those guards locked the freaking closet!"
"Hey! No kicking, or else one of you gets shot in the chest!" The guard sounded muffled. He must still be outside. I was wrong, this boat is heavily guarded.
"How many are you guys out there?" Jason asked curiously.
"None of your business!" The guard kicked the door angrily, smashing Jason's nose.
"You kids need to sleep, or else he'll shoot you himself." He told us.
"Wait, who?" Said Eiffel.
"My boss. Hunter's dad."
Hunter, that's the little monster's name.
"Alright, mister, we'll sleep." Patrick said obediently.
"Are we really gonna sleep or find a way outta here?" Jason whispered silently.
"Of course not--We're getting out of here in no time."
"We have to get rid of these handcuffs first." I panted. "This is very uncomfortable."
"Use your powers then."
"Can't...concentrate."
I was out of oxygen and comfort. Whoever says stay out of your comfort zone is dead meat. I kicked the walls next to me. They're not expanding. I bounce up and down in discomfort. I bet holding back urine for two hours is better. It's like my brain is dry and my skull is shrinking.
"Dude, calm down. Everything's gonna be okay." Jason whispered.
I didn't care if I made distinct noises. Just get me out of here!
"Get me out of here!" I yelled, but my throat was as dry as the desert.
"Calm down, Jess!" Eiffel yelled at me.
"Let's not ring the bell here, people. Let's not lose our heads." Patrick said as if he made the situation any easier.
"Ring," Eiffel said under her breath. "Ring, that's it! Jess, get my ring out of my finger. Quick."
She turns around and extended her fingers infront of me. I bent down pulled the ring out of her finger.
"Got it." I didn't stop bouncing.
"Great. Now twist the gem off and you'll see a small needle inside where the gem used to be."
Oh, I know what she wants me to do.
"I know what to do." I said. A small amount of relief flushed the fear out.
"Careful, Jess. It's poison ring."
"I can't believe you have that." Jason said. "I've been wanting those ever since I was twelve."
"Ew, no. Why would you even want a piece of jewelry?" She said.
"Because I think the leather jacket would take all the attention away from the ring. Yeah, that's how awesome I really am."
"Shut up, Jason." Eiffel finally said.
I struggle to fit the small spike inside the keyhole. My hand wouldn't stop shaking.
"I can't see why we can't just use the knife from your bag." Jason said to Patrick.
"Can't. Guards took my bag."
"Ours too," Eiffel added. "and they took my phone so we can't call for help." She said with sorrow and dismay.
"What's the use? We're heading to an abandoned island, you think we can get a signal there?" Patrick said.
"I got it!" I screamed, causing the trio to shush me loudly.
I tossed down the cuffs and tried unlocking Eiffel's. Then Jason's. And finally Patrick's.
"So how do we fully escape?" Eiffel asked Jason.
"Why are you asking me?"
"Because you're the oldest. And you can teleport."
"Oh, right. But if any of us use our powers, not only it affects our future, but it's gonna affect my our lives as well." He paused.
"Remember," Jason looked at me and Patrick. "this isn't Capricorn Academy anymore. This is earth and it's a dangerous place. I'd kill myself if anything happens to you. He had to beg me to protect you, Jess."
"Who? Who's he?" I asked.
"Jackson...Look, he's not angry with you. He loves you. He just doesn't want anything to happen to you." He put his hand on my shoulder.
"Tell that to the black eye he gave me." I swatted his hand away furiously. "He doesn't really care about me. He's selfish."
My system felt like shutting down. Giving up.
"Now get me out of here!" I kicked the door as hard as I can, not even worrying about the guard outside. He might as well be just sleeping. I see one of the door hinges fall off. The door was crooked.
"Jess, do it again!" Eiffel encouraged.
"I wasn't doing it on purpose. I just got mad." I said calmly. I was also guilty.
Who was really the selfish one? Jackson or me?
"See, Eiffel? He can't bring himself to do it. You know why?" Jason sneered. I do not wish for him to continue.
"Because he's a coward. He never solves his problems, he just runs from them." I clench my fists tight. "He always runs. But he never really ends up in a different place. I think you should leave him, Eiffel. He's not worth it. He'll get you killed, trust me." I sighed deeply.
I lunged towards Jason and closed my hands around his neck in a fit of rage. His size didn't matter. I easily pushed against the door and I heard it crack. Was it his bones or the broken wood? I threw multiple punches until Patrick and Eiffel held me back. No way they could pull me back, I was a beast.
"You'll regret saying those words, Jason! Hope you die, traitor!"
He pushed my face away from his. He spits blood on my face. He could barely speak because I squeezed too much of his veins. Suddenly, both our weights knocked down the door. I crash into a wall and Jason got up coughing and gagging in his own blood.
"Jason, are you okay?" Patrick asked sincerely.
Instead of being mad about me strangling him, he just laughed at my face and raised his thumb.
"Good...job." Jason grinned like demented killer. "You...helped us escape and...you did it yourself. I've...never been so proud."
He was making fun of me. Playing with my emotions like that. He needs more of what I gave him. Outside the closet is even better than being inside because I have more space to pound him.
"Jess? Hey, it's okay. It was just a way for us to--" Eiffel stopped after seeing me punch Jason's bloody and trap him on a headlock.
"Jess..." I could feel myself cutting off Jason's air supply.
Without my knowledge, his fist launches up to my jaw. My head shot back, my brain shook badly. I pushed the wall to steady myself after losing my grip on Jason's neck.
"Jess, are you crazy?! You would have killed him!"
I sprinted towards the wheezing man and punched him one more time. I felt a sharp pain travel around my neck. Like a tiny needle. My vision blurs, not because Robert's glasses fell off, but because I was poisoned.
Eiffel removes her hand on the side of my neck and backed away. She poisoned me with her ring. How could she?
I drop to my knees and lay on the back of my head.
"Jess," Eiffel's voice echoed. I could only see non-vivid colors and distinct shapes. "It was for your own good. I'm so sorry."
I heard a different door burst open. Before my hearing stop functioning, I heard Hunter shout at them. Then I decided to close my eyes and give up, which was one of the most important choices I had in life when I was betrayed multiple times.
