This was the day. It’s January the first, and I don’t have to ignore Lucas anymore. I thought about all the times before November we spent. We were happy, two friends and I had to ruin it. It’s after school and I’m at our tree. Hoping he remembers that it’s the day. I closed my eyes and sat down, leaning against the tree. Even without looking, I could imagine his face staring at mine in admiration. I heard faint footsteps walking towards me. I opened my eyes and looked in the direction of the footsteps. It was Lucas, looking even better than ever. I stood up when he stood in front of me. I could see the air coming out of our mouths as we breathed out.
‘’I’m sorry, Jamie.’’
‘’What? Why?’’
‘’I rejected girls, they aren’t as perfect as you are, Jamie.’’
‘’Oh,’’ I laughed without making a single sound. ‘’I’m not perfect.’’
‘’I know, but your flaws are what make you perfect to me. Jamie, I can’t survive without you. You lighten my day more than the sun does, you make me feel good about myself and I want you to be happy.’’
‘’What are you getting at?’’ I knew where this was going, I said it anyways.
‘’I’m still in love with you, Jamie Morgan. I utterly and flawlessly love you.’’
‘’Lucas,’’ I breathed,’’ I do too. ‘’ He pulled something out of his pocket. It was a small, red velvet box. He opened it, revealing a diamond ring.
‘’So will you be my girlfriend?’’ he knew the answer. And hopefully so do you.
‘’Yes, I will.’’ I could feel a tear slipping down my cheek, and him using his thumb to wipe it. He put the ring on my finger.
‘’Why are you crying, Jamie?’’
‘’Because I waited for this forever. You saved my life, Lucas. I love you so much,’’
‘’I know, Jamie.’’
He picked me up and twirled me around while kissing me. It was also the best kiss in the entire world. It made me realize how much my life changed. In a good way.
