Shion woke up with a start, that made him sit up straight. His whole body was sweating, and felt very tense.
He had the same nightmare he usually had, but this time, the ending was extended; as the old person, who he referred to as 'Gran', dragged him away from the lifeless bodies of his parents and sister, he could see his mother's body reanimate.
Past 'Gran' 's shoulder, where his head lay, he could see his dead mother scream, and reach out towards him, yet she wasn't the same beautiful lady as like she was while alive. Her eye sockets were empty, and her mouth vomited out black sludge, but her shrieks were clearly heard by her 'beloved' son. In a horrible, ringing manner, she screamed at Shion, and how could he leave her vulnerable self to die like this.
As Shion stared in disbelief at the horrible image of his mother gawking at him with her nonexistent eyes, he uncontrollably wailed. He cried so much, that he got hiccups.
Even after he woke up, he could feel how wet his cheeks were from those painful tears, and his hands were throbbing from the grip he had on the soft duvet.
After calming himself down, Shion looked around, puzzled. Where am I?His surrounding were different from what they were before. Now instead of sitting on a bench, with his head on Nezumi's lap, he was in, what it looked like, a cottage. He was lying in a bed that was made from wood, that at least had to have a hundred years. On the walls, there was a variety of colored rugs hung up instead of wallpaper, and in the places that were not covered with rugs, were little shelves where candles or oil lamps lay. The room itself was tiny and contained furniture that was all squashed up against each other.
There, too was a wardrobe, made from oak branches, and some even had half dead leaves on them. The room was windowless, making it very dark and stuffy. What wasn't covered by the rugs, it seemed that the actual walls were covered with tree barks. For insulation perhaps?
The ground was just merely dirt, which made Shion ask, am I underground? The room obviously contained a door, which seemed like from another era. Actually, everything in this room seemed ancient.
Suddenly, Nezumi opened the door with a loud thud.
"Oh, you're finally awake. You got me worried there as you wouldn't wake up at all. It was almost as if-" "Where the hell am I?" Shion interrupted Nezumi, while breathing heavily. He felt suffocated by the tiny room.
Shion's claustrophobic symptoms started kicking in as his shirt was drenched in sweat even further, his heart beated rapidly and he began to feel nauseous. The taller boy came closer to him, and helped him get to the next room, by holding Shion by his shoulders. He totally ignored Shion's question.
The next room was more spacious then the bedroom Shion awoke in, but the decor of it was pretty the same. All of the furniture was made out of oak branches, the walls were decorated with rugs of various colors and the room was windowless. As it seemed, the room he entered was a sitting room, which was linked with a kitchen by an archway.
Nezumi walked down to a couch, which was made of enormous leaves tied together with long stems of alternative flowers. Shion couldn't help but stare around the room in awe, as his heart began to slow down. He felt as if he was in a fairy tale of some sort, and wished to stay here forever. "You feel better here?" Nezumi's question brought Shion's dreamy expression back to earth. "Yes, thanks. You still haven't explained where am I yet." He breathed out heavily, as he answered the other boys question.
"You're at my grandmothers house. She always had many medicines made so I thought these might fix you up. Way better then that poison they make back in the city."
