Niall held on to Marie as if she was going to be taken away from him if he ever let her go, even once.
And I don’t blame him.
What we are going to do in a few hours is dangerous, unpredictable, and insanely stupid. Everyone argued with us on how irrational we’re being by accepting to help so fast. But we’re doing this to save Jane. The detectives called us about an hour after they left to tell us how the trade-off is going to work.
Marie and I will arrive at the place where they have Jane hostage. Police and the guys in the Firearms unit will have the place surrounded and secured by then. Marie and I will have small microphones on us so that if anything goes wrong, our signal will have the whole team of police inside faster than the kidnappers can react. If the switch-off is successful, the team will bust in there once I tell them exactly where everyone is.
Niall got really mad at the fact that Marie is in more danger than anyone who is involved in this once I explained it over to the lads.
“There is no way in hell I’m going to let you do this so willingly!” he yelled.
“Niall, mate calm down-” says Zayn before Marie cuts him off.
“Niall, if I don’t do this, Jane might die!” she yelled back. We all jump in our seats in surprise on how loud this girl can be. She is usually quiet, it seems almost unnatural for her to be yelling this loud.
“If you do, do this you might die!” He yelled back, tears falling from his eyes. “I can’t lose you again!” She began to cry with him.
“I know what could happen, Niall, and I’m scared too. But if anything happens to Jane, I don’t think I could live with it. She’s like my sister, no, she IS my sister. I have to at least try.” She said softly, calming herself down. She covered her face with her sleeve to wipe off the tears that started to drip with eyeliner and mascara. Niall face softens and he hugs her again.
“I just don’t want to lose you again.” He whispered. We stayed in silence for a bit, until Liam let out a deep sigh.
“Marie, Harry, you have to be ready in a few hours. I think you guys should do whatever you want in those few hours before you go.” Marie didn’t say anything, and I just nod.
“Come on Lou, let’s go home for the time being.” I said quietly. Louis got up and we both walked out of the flat.
“Mate, you sure about this?” asks Louis, looking forward. We reach the van and I go in the passenger seat. Since we all used to be in one flat, issues with the van was minimal. Now, whoever gets it first has to take care of it until the next outing.
Louis jumps in the driver’s seat and sits there quietly. He doesn’t move, doesn’t start the ignition, nothing.
“Lou start the car.” I look at him and he smiles.
“Can’t. Remember?” I mentally slap myself. I completely forgot that Louis is forbidden to drive by management, since he has been in so many accidents the past couple of months.
“Let’s just switch.” We got out and switched sides. Louis kept his goofy smile on as he tosses the keys and I turn on the van. Even though it’s not the best time to smile, I grinned a little as we pulled out into the street.
We reached the flat, which isn’t too far off from Liam’s, and we go inside. We stop dead in our tracks as we see the living room completely trashed. Our jaws dropped to the floor as we walk in further, seeing that not only the living room, but the kitchen as well.
“Oh… my… god…” we both said at the same time. The couch was utterly destroyed, the rest of the furniture was either knocked over or up-side down. Bags of chips, cookies, and other things littered the floor of the living room and kitchen.
