i sit in class, squirming about in my seat. i can't wait to get my letter! my teacher finally hands me my letter. on it, it says tyler j. in barely legible handwriting. this will be a problem, i say to myself. i open it up.
"dear pen pal,
hi! my name is tyler joesph. i'm 7 year old boy at olentangy orange elementary. i like playing basketball and climbing trees with my brother, zac. i live in columbus ohio. i really like playing video games. mario kart and donkey kong are the best! what do you like to do?

this dude seems okay. the girl next to me, debby has someone named jenna from the same place.
"ms. black? where is colombus, ohio?" she pulls out the map by the handle.
"this is ohio, and colombus is their capital." she points.
"oh okay, cool! thanks!" she smiles at me. i grab my alien pencil and some paper.
"dear tyler,
my name is josh dun. i'm from seattle washington. i also like donkey kong. i like to ride my bike, and play on the playground. i also like to run. i'm really fast! i just turned 8. today in class we learned about multiplication. this stuff is so hard! almost as hard as subtraction!

i thought the angry smiley face was funny. i draw a picture of the space needle in the margins and hand it to ms. black.
"thank you josh! i like your drawing!"
"thanks ms. black!" the bell rang, and i grabbed my backpack and caught up with debby. we lived in the same apartment complex, so i walked home with her. i saw that it was raining, so i pulled out my umbrella for the both of us.
