9 years later

"JISHWA! WE'RE OVER HERE!" i yell across the lunch room, waving my arms frantically. josh sees me and grins. he bounces his way over to the table.
"hey friend! i was just talking to spyke." josh says, looking back at his new friend with long layered black hair with red tips, parted as far as he possibly could. he wore black around his eyes, which were red. his skinny jeans were ripped and he wore a large hoodie with some sort of metal band on it. his irises were yellow from contacts, and lips coated with a matte blue lipstick. his skin was pale and he looked like he was about to fall apart.
"why do you hang out with him? he's a lowlife druggie who listens to metal and whines about his depression on myspace. and don't get me started on the pictures he takes." said mark, an old friend of mine. i'm glad he said it because i wasn't going to. josh takes a seat next to his girlfriend, debby, and kisses her tenderly on the forehead. they knew eachother from seattle, and both of their parents decided to move to colombus when the office was bought out.
"he's really funny! and he really needs a friend." josh says defensively.
"we're funny." jenna says crossing her arms. she blows a few of her blonde strands of hair out of her face and pouts. i smile, seeing her blue eyes flicker.
"we are just looking out for you josh." i add, mouth full of refried beans. a little bit of cheese drips out of my mouth, and i push it away with my sleeve.
"i feel bad for him, that's all." josh says. mark rolls his eyes.
"it's his choice to dress like that, like... like a-" mark stutters.
"stop! he's human, he just expresses himself differently." josh interrupts.
"he chooses to huff paint, do weed, and drink with his emo friends too." debby adds. "i don't want you doing that, josh."
"neither do i." josh says. "i'm trying to help him. it's really hard for him."
"and what kind of name is spyke? with a y? what?" jenna says.
"can we talk about something else?" josh huffs. he grabs his pizza and bites the crust angrily. i feel bad for him, it's not his fault he's so caring.
"josh we have rehearsal tonight in my basement, okay?" i break the awkward silence.
"can we watch?" jenna and debby ask with excitement. i look at josh, and we both nod. they both beam cheesy smiles and high five eachother. josh laughs.
