today in class we didn't have enough time to read our letters. just knowing that a letter from one of the coolest people in the world is sitting in my backpack seems so awesome to me. once class is dismissed, i run out the door, and sprint towards my house. i reach a house with a big blue door and white trim. i practically slam the door down and slip off my rubber rain boots. i slide across the hardwood floor in my socks like i'm ice skating. once i get to my room, i rip open the letter.
"dear tyler,
my name is josh dun. i'm from seattle washington. i also like donkey kong. i like to ride my bike, and play on the playground. i also like to run. i'm really fast! i just turned 8. today in class we learned about multiplication. this stuff is so hard! almost as hard as subtraction.
from,
josh d. >:)"
"oh my gosh he's so cool..." i say in awe. i toss my backpack and accidentally knock over a large stack of comic books.
"tyler? what's that ruckus?" i hear my mom ask.
"nothing, just bumped into something. sorry mom!" i yell down the stairs.
"well keep it down! i've got a migraine." i can hear her sigh. i walk down the stairs trying not to slip on the glossy wood.
"thank goodness it's friday," she says. "so, how was school?"
"awesome! jenna did a trick on the monkey bars, during recess, it was sick! she called it a yip or something to do with gymnastics."
"sounds cool. you should have jenna come over sometime! she's a perfectly nice girl."
"no mom."
"why not? do you have a CRUSH on her?" my mom asks. i feel my cheeks go hot.
"no gross! girls are gross! ew! no!" i say, horrified. she opens up her arms.
"aw, my little bean is becoming a man!" she coos.
"ew ew ew ew!" i shriek squirming out of her arms. i pull out my letter from josh.
"oh mom look i have a pen pal who's from seattle! he lives next to the president!"
"uh... the president lives in washington d.c, tyler."
"oh. whatever. he's really cool! jenna got this girl named debby who's from the same school!" i ramble.
"that's cool!"
"i know right?"
