You know I had to make you wait [20 minutes], but alas, you shall wait no more! Here's your update.
----------------
I couldn't believe it.
"Mitch?" I reply, partially out of shock, but mostly disbelief.
"You're here... But how did- why are you in Paris?" Mitch replies sounding as shocked as I am.
"I'm visiting my, uh... someone..." I say, struggling to find words.
"I really wish that we had a better reunion." Mitch jokingly commented, wiping his eyes, but hesitating to pull away from me.
"Mitch, what's wrong?" I say in a concerned voice, suddenly remembering why I came over here.
"A guy-" Mitch started but slapped his hand over his mouth. Then he pulled it away and sighed.
"Go ahead and mock me. I'm gay." He replied in a sad tone.
"Why would I do that?" I reply. "If it isn't already obvious, I am too." I reply, chuckling, causing him to giggle.
"Oh. Didn't notice." He said, sitting up and smiling. He suddenly hugged me, letting me feel his rapid heart rate against my own.
I hugged him too after a second, running my hand up and down his back. He didn't seem to want to pull away, but to be honest I didn't either.
"Well, you don't want to keep your date waiting." He says, almost frowning, as if his smile was held up by push pins.
"What? I'm single." I reply, confused. I noticed something flash over his eyes, but as quickly as it appeared, it was gone.
"Oh. I just assumed because you're in a restaurant, didn't specify who you were visiting, and also, you got a ring on your finger." He says, finishing with a giggle, causing me to giggle as well. He suddenly smiled brightly, as if someone injected him with joy. He quickly wrapped his arms around me again, this time tighter.
"I missed you so much." I hear him say, his voice slightly cracking.
"I missed you more, Mitchy." I reply, fighting the urge to cry. When I pulled away, I couldn't resist it. I saw his glassy eyes, and it was as if we were playing follow the leader.
"So you're in Paris now?" I ask.
"Nope. I moved from Italy last year to America, but I decided to visit some family." He replied.
"That's cool. So where's the guy I'm going to kill?" I say, looking around, causing Mitch to laugh.
"It's nothing. Why don't you eat with me and we can catch up? He said. I noticed he hadn't order anything yet, so I agreed.
We ate, caught up a bit, and talked. It seemed as soon as we got our meals, they were gone, as if hours turned to minutes.
Mitch sighed. "I really don't want to leave yet." He said in a defeated tone.
"We can go to my hotel to catch up?" I reply, regretting the words as soon as they leave out of my mouth. "I- I mean like, not that, but I mean, like talk, or if you don't want to that's fine." I stutter out, making him giggle for the hundredth time today.
"I think that sounds fun. How about we go to the park instead, though?" He insists, so I nod in agreement.
-----
"I hope you don't mind if we take my rental car." He says as we walk out of the restaurant.
"I walked here, but why don't we just drive mine?." I say, sarcastically.
"Smartass" I hear him mumble, smiling, as he unlocks the car with his keypad and swings his door open.
-----
The sun was just beginning to set, making the park look like a fairytale.
As we got out of the car, I noticed Mitch's lips part in awe as he looked out at the glimmering lights strung around the trees that beautifully reflected in his eyes.
It was around Christmas time, so the park decided to get festive.
I looked up in amazement at the beautiful multicolored lights hanging on each tree in the park.
"They're beautiful." He says, dazed by the dancing colors.
"They're almost as beautiful as you."
As I walk over from my side of the car, I stop right behind him and turn him around. I stare intently into his eyes, letting my eyes flicker to his lips, then back at his eyes, who seemed to have done the same. After a moment, he suddenly speaks.
"Let's, uh, go sit down." He replies, slowly unwrapping his arm from my waist and peeling his hand away from my shoulder, which I didn't notice were there.
For some reason, I didn't move my hand.
"Did anyone ever tell you how perfect you are?" I say just above a whisper. I pull my hand away, only to have him wrap his arms around me, and let his head rest in my collarbone.
"No." He says after a minute. "No one ever has." He sighs and looks up into my eyes.
"Well. All the more reason to tell you." I say, looking into his dark, brown, chocolate-drizzled eyes. Then that look returns. The one I couldn't quite depict. He leans into me again, resting his head on my neck, as I droop my head down, never unwrapping my arms from him.
"Scott?" He whispers.
"Mhm?" I hum out.
"Is it okay if I stay with you tonight? I was staying with Travis until my room was ready at a hotel but then we got into a fight and-" I quickly cut him off.
"Of course you can, Mitchy. It's only one bed, though, is that okay?" I reply, lifting my head and him lifting his, allowing me to look into his eyes yet again. He only smiled in response.
"Let's go get some cocoa."
