The entire room was silent. The tension in the air between Cameron and Shawn was thick, and it was heavy. Cameron stood in shock at the other boy's revelation, and if he could be be completely be honest with himself, he was utterly heartbroken.
He closed his eyes tight, and swallowed deeply, "I'm gonna go look for Jay."
"That's not your place, it's mine." Shawn said defensively, "I'll go look for him."
"No." Cameron yelled, slamming his fist on the table, "I need to make things right. I don't care who you think you are to him."
"Who I think I am? I don't think he's my boyfriend Cameron, he is my boyfriend.. Why can't you understand that?" Shawn retaliated.
Daniel got up from his seat, clearly pissed off at both of them, "Niether of you can take care of him! If you both truly cared, you'd be out there looking for him! You two stay here, I'll go find him."
With that, Daniel walked out of the restaurant and slammed the door shut, Jack following him. The rest of the group looked at each other, awkwardness filling the room. Nash cleared his throat and broke the silence.
"You mind explaining?" he asked, looking down at his fingers, "And please start from the beginning."
Shawn's heartbeat increased. He didn't plan to come out like this, hell he never thought he'd be in a relationship with a guy before.
"I didn't wanna tell you guys like this.. I really didn't." he began, his voice hitching a bit, "It all started the night they came to the party. I thought Jay's quietness was mysterious but kind of interesting. He looked sick, and when I went out to go ask if he was okay, he broke down about his Dad. I never saw someone so broken before.."
"Great, you used a death in the family as a free pick-up pass." Cameron muttered.
"Cameron, I would never do that. What the hell is wrong with you? I never did shit to you." Shawn said angrily.
"Guys, calm down. We don't need another fight breaking out. Much less it be two best friends." Hayes reminded them, "Go on Shawn."
Shawn nodded, "Well, after Cameron took him downstairs, I couldn't stop thinking about how Jay felt alone, and just overall how upset he was. Matt and Hayes started to fight, and you guys sent me downstairs to get Cam."
"And I asked you to watch Jay while I was gone, not seduce him." Cameron shouted.
"Cameron, stop!" Matt yelled, "Your side commentary isn't making a single thing better."
"Why? It's the truth! You wouldn't have even gotten to stay there if Mahogany hadn't forced me to stay at the party."
"Why are you so against this? I'm happy. He's happy.." Shawn said quietly, "I thought you were my friend, I thought I could count on you to be there for me."
Cameron remained silent, his own feelings flying through his mind and heart. He couldn't blame Shawn. All the singer had done was take a chance, something that Cameron was afraid to do. Shawn was braver than him, and won in the end. He knew he should be happy for his friend, but not when his friend was with someone he was in love with.
"Cameron, when my first single ever came out, you were the first to know because I felt that sharing the moment with my brother was the right thing to do." Shawn said, a bit teary eyed, "You were the one who convinced me
to join Magcon.. why can't you just be happy for me?""Shawn.." Carter began, "Does Jay make you happy?"
"Yes, more than anything.."
"Then I'm happy for you." he replied, "I want what's best for you, and if being with Jay makes you happy, then I'm fine with it."
"I second that." Hayes said, "Everyone deserves someone to love."
"We love you Shawn. If this is what it takes for you to see truth and happiness, so be it." Taylor said as well, adjusting his bandana.
"You're our brother," Matt said, getting up to hug Shawn, "I haven't seen you this level headed in a while, and if you're gonna be with anyone, I'm glad it's Jay."
"We're a family." Nash began, "Family never gets left behind. I'm gonna be honest, it's gonna be an adjustment, but if Jay and Daniel do join Magcon, at least that lets us get to know our new family members. We'll work through this."
"Cameron?" Matt said, nudging his head towards Shawn, "Don't you have something to say?"
"I'm sorry, Shawn." he said, shutting his eyes tight, "I shouldn't have overreacted. You and Jay deserve each other."
"Thank you.." he replied, hugging his brothers.
He never felt more happier in his life, and he wished he could pause this moment forever. He was with the boy he loved, the boy who had stood up for him, and risked going to jail for him. He couldn't deny how in love he felt when Jay had pummeled that guy because he had laid a finger on Shawn, and he was going to make sure he thanked Jay properly.
Cameron on the other hand, felt sick to his stomach. He was honestly happy his friend had found someone to love, but he wished it were someone else. Cameron was in love with Jay as well, and he didn't think he could cope with something so hurtful. He died a bit inside when Shawn had come forth with his revelation, but he couldn't let anyone know.
It was such a shock to him that he started having feelings for Jay, seeing as Cameron had never looked that way at men before, but it was something about the boy that made him fall deeper than ever.
"Shawn, I have one question." Nash said, "How are you gonna come out to your fans?"
"I haven't thought about it yet. I was gonna keep it lowkey for a while before he was okay with it." Shawn replied.
"You guys come out whenever you want to." Carter replied, "No pressure."
Cameron couldn't stand it anymore. He logged onto Twitter from his phone, and checked his notifications. Thousands of people had tweeted him the hashtag "Jameron", with screenshotted photos of his video with Jay. He favorited a few, and saved one on his phone, and smiled.
He knew Jay didn't wanna speak to him, but he needed to change that. He would have to give him time, he knew that, but he wouldn't stop trying. If his love for Jay truly ran as he deep as he feels, he would fight for him.
"Okay." said Daniel's voice, from behind them. He walked into the room, adjusting his matching Bandana he had with Taylor, "We found Jay. We're gonna take him back to the hotel. He's still a bit on edge."
"Great, let's go." Matt said, before he was stopped by Daniel.
"I don't think that's a good idea right now." he said, "He's not exactly in a visitor's mood. It's nothing personal at all, it's just.. Jay has a very violent history, and I'd hate to see him fall back into it, or anyone else get hurt. It's been a long time since he's let out this type of anger.. I think he just needs time."
"When can we see him?" Matt asked, worry filling his voice. He thought Jay was a good friend, sort of like the other brother he'd always wanted.
"Maybe tomorrow."
"That's too long." Shawn said, getting up from the table, "I need to make sure he's okay."
"We all do." Cameron said as well.
"Shawn, I know how much you care for him, but to be honest if he sees those bruises on your neck, he will flip the fuck out. He really cares about you, and I know he wants to see you too, but give it time. And you," he said, pointing at Cameron, "You're the last person he wants to see right now."
Cameron felt a huge pang of hurt to his chest, he frowned and walked out of the restaurant. He'd give Jay time, he'd give him that much.
He was gonna tell Jay the truth.
He was gonna tell him about the boy he spilled lemonade on, fell in love with, and joined him in this summer of unexpectance.
