This book takes place before "Devil's Dissections" so before season 17.
Nick is still a part of the squad.

It is ten in the morning and Amanda hasn't showed up yet. I start to feel uncomfortable and stand up from the chair to head towards the Sargent's office.
Olivia is sitting in front of her computer, with her glasses on. She doesn't look up as I knock on her door.
The smell of light perfume hits me as I cough, trying to get her attention.
Olivia looks up, confused to see me. 'Nick?' She asks. 'What's wrong? Come on in.'
I cautiously close the door, as I slowly approach her desk.
'Amanda hasn't been here since yesterday evening. I tried to call her but it always goes straight to voice mail.' I say, as I go trough my hair. I can feel my fingers shaking and Olivia notices it, looking past the thick glass, at Amanda's desk.
Silence. Thick, scary silence.
It takes her long enough to think whether to call her or don't.
'Call her.' She says finally. 'From my desk phone. And put it on speaker.' Olivia orders.
I dial her number, pressing my shaky finger extra long on the speaker button to calm my nerves. It doesn't help.
'She is probably fine.' Olivia says, putting her hand on mine.
The phone rings.
Ring, ring, rin-
'Amanda?' I say carefully. Nothing. Silence.
I look up to Olivia. Do you think- she starts to mouth, but stops apruptly when a male moan is to be heard.
'Who are you?' I breathe.
Nothing. There is actually such a long pause, I actually start to think he hung up the phone.
After a while, a muffled scream of a female pierces my ears and I close my eyes in horror.
A slight 'Help...' is to be heard, loud thuds and the line cuts off.
Olivia puts her face in her hand breathes heavily in and out. I just can't move, the horror slowly spreading out in my body.
