Chapter Fifteen

A loud bang.

All I hear is screams and panic.

I look over at the two and Melinda looks more together than Amanda. She is shaking as if electricity was running trough her. I rush to her side, just at the moment she slides to the ground.

'Amanda!' I stroke a hair strain from her eyes. She looks so peaceful when she is asleep. Like she hasn't gone trough torture and hell. 'Baby girl, you need to stay with me. The buses are on their way-' I hear a loud thud and notice Melinda on the floor.

'Fuck- Olivia!' Liv wakes up from her trance and kneels next to Melinda.

'Melinda, honey. Stay with me. Everything is going to be okay. You are going to be fine. You are going to be fine. Fine...' She trails off, sounding like she was trying to convince her, more than Melinda.

I hear footsteps coming towards us and I look up to see to see Nick. He is just standing there, trying to adjust to what he is seeing. Then he gulps and turns to Olivia. 'Sam has been shot. He is bleeding badly.' He glances at Melinda.

'Nick, go. We got this.' I say to him and turn to Olivia. She is dragging Melinda from behind. 'Nick, go. They need you-'

'I want to help.' He gets to Olivia's side and takes Melinda in his arms. He's not bothered by the fact that he is carrying a fully grown up woman in his arms, but Melinda is almost skin and bones.

The ambulance sirens are to be heard from the distance and we watch, as they get closer.

Two paramedics get out of each bus and carry a bed behind them.

'We'll take it from here, detectives.' The brunette woman says. 'You can ride in the ambulance, if you please.'

I take one last glance at Carisi, who gets in it with Amanda and the doors close behind me with a loud thud.

Olivia is pacing up and down.

'What is taking so long? I thought they just needed to stabilize their breathing and heart.' She looked scared. 'If we came way too late then-'

'Liv, they are fine. Just take a break.' I pat on the chair next to me. 'Those things you said, take time.'

Olivia slowly approaches the chair next to me and sits down, head in her hands.

'Liv, we found them. They are fine. They need to be on medication, but they are okay. Everyone is going to be fine.' I say, just as an alarm goes off.

I look up to doctors rushing into a patients room. Room 286. Amanda's.

'It- It's Amanda's!' I can see Olivia's, Carisi's and Nick's worried faces, as we rush down to her room.

Halfway down, I realize, I have a chance to turn around and never look back, because the scene we were about to see, may not be the best. Anything could have happened to Amanda right now. It could be a overdose, a heart failure, or worse. She could be long gone.

But I had no going back. I needed to see her, to get rid of my panic rising in me.

A short, red haired tattooed nurse stops us from going inside.

'Sir, you can't go in there.' She says.

'We are her family. And oopie, doopsie we happen to be cops too.' I show her my badge and get ready to go inside, but she blocks my way.

'You still cannot go in there, sir. If you want to watch, there is a glass. If not, the waiting room is right were you came from.' She turns around and goes inside.

We watch from the glass, how Amanda struggles to keep the doctors away from her and a needle pierces her skin, as her arms fall to her sides, limb, as if it were a fallen feather from the sky.
