So back to the story.
---
I am standing in the precinct, ready to start work again.
I see police officers running around, trying to get their cases in order.
I slowly head toward Lieutenant Olivia Benson's office, knowing what her reaction would be. I stand a long time at the door, thinking about turning around, starting my career somewhere else. Somewhere more quiet and less hyperactive. I slowly turn the doorknob and see my old friend sitting in her desk, looking at her computer screen with her black glasses on.
She doesn't look up. I cough a little, and her head shoots up. Her eyes lit up, the moment she sees me.
'Amanda.' She folds her glasses and puts them next to her computer. 'You shouldn't bee here. I gave you two months. This is the first.' She smiles. 'How are you?'
I smile a little and close the door behind me. 'I know... I- I have been eating regularly and you know, getting therapy-'
'You know I didn't mean it that way.' She gestures the chair in front of her. I slowly take place in that chair.
'I have been better. But it's all good right now.' I laugh. She laughs with me, until the phone rings.
'I need to-'
'It's okay, Liv. I can step out for a second if you need it.' I say.
'No, it's okay.' Olivia picks up the phone on her desk. 'Benson.'
I look at the walls of her office, and notice that nothing has changed. I see photos of her holding up her certificates and the last one, is a photo taken at the Lieutenant ceremony. Olivia hangs up the phone.
'Melinda collapsed.' She says grabbing her coat. 'I'm just going to check on her. Wanna come?' I nod, knowing what a mess she must be in.
As we step out of the building, I follow Olivia to her car and feel the wind brushing against my cheeks and at that moment, I wish that I had put on warmer clothes on. I grab onto my thin white coat and get into Olivia's car.
She sees me shivering. 'Are you okay?'
I smile at her. 'Yes. It's cold.' I say with a laugh.

As we arrive at the hospital, a brunette nurse approaches us.
'Detective Benson?' She says calmly. She smiles, as Olivia nods. 'I have heard loads of things about you. How you rescued Amanda and Melinda.' She turns around and leads us to Melinda's room. She leaves us, as we get to the room and I push the door open, seeing Melinda lying there, white as a sheet.
'Oh God did they call you?' She says, face palming herself. 'I told them not to call you. I feel sos stupid.'
'Melinda, you collapsed.' Olivia says smiling and taking place next to Melinda's bed. I follow and sit next to her.
'Did you ever talk to anyone about...' I ask, hoping she would understand what I meant.
Melinda laughs. 'I don't need to pay anyone to talk about my problems.' She says sternly.
'Melinda, I thought so too at the beginning, but it really helps.' I take her hand into mine. 'There will be people understanding you and the situation you are in. You don't have to be ashamed of what you have been trough.' I squeeze her hand tightly.
'Olivia,' Melinda looks up. 'I'm glad you found us.'
I smile a bright smile. 'I'm glad you're alive.'
