Tension and unravelled secrecy

After the fight, a limping Bex was leaning his weight casually onto my body as we walked out of the Dome. "So, is this why you couldn't hang out at the hospital during the week?" "Hmm?"

Bex wasn't listening, his eyes seemed far too distant, like his mind wasn't here. He shook his head as if to clear it from his thoughts. "What was that Cheeks?" I sighed out of irritation. "I asked if the fighting was the reason for you not being able to hang out with me at the hospital?" "I asked Ken not to bring you around here Cheeks."

I turned to check whether the other three were following us. Scott and Zeyaana were in a deep conversation with one another while Ken's head was stuck in his phone. "Kenlan is only fourteen Bex, and I was scared of losing him at the hospital and you witnessed me at my most vulnerable. I can't risk that again."

Bex shifted his weight off of me and stood in front of me sighing heavily. "I know about you Cheeks. I'm not backing down though." He cupped my cheek in his palm. "Yes, this is why I couldn't be at the hospital during the week. I have a fight two nights a week and I didn't really feel comfortable with you seeing me all bruised up and your attention was on Kenlan, I couldn't shift your attention to myself."

He leaned against my car, his legs were probably too weak to hold him steady. "How do you heal so quickly?" A smile crept up onto his face. "I barely get a fist laid on me, usually I have to rest a pack of ice for three days. It's never this bad."

I scanned his posture. "I don't think you should drive home,  Bex. You look like death." His eyes were closed momentarily as if he agreed. "Don't come to the Dome again, please Cheeks. I couldn't concentrate on my fight."

His voice was tired as he spoke. I moved him out of the way of the door and opened it. I helped him get in when he grabbed onto my wrist gently. "I know that the word love means destruction to you, but I just need one chance Cheeks, maybe more as time passes, but I just need one chance now."

His eyes carried a lot of emotion, he looked at me with so much honest intensity. "Bex, it's-" "I love you Cheeks, I know it's too early to say it but I could mean it as a friend for now." His hand rubbed against my cheek.

"We can be friends."

When Kenlan realised that I was already at the car, he ran as quick as his legs could go. "Get into the backseat." He complied.

As we drove home, I'd cast my eyes on the boys in the car with me. I really couldn't not care about anybody, as much as my parents destroyed my view on love I still found myself loving everybody far too easily. Andie and I were barely friends for a week and in that time I've already told her that I loved her.

I wasn't sure if it was a moment of weakness but it slipped out of my mouth and I would never, not ever take it back because Kenlan was right, I loved my friends far beyond my end and if Bex was asking for friendship, I was going to give it to him because I care about him, and caring is loves equivalent right?

"Hey, Bex, wake up buddy. You're going to have to spend the night in the guest room." Kenlan spoke while I got out of the car to open up the house. "You weigh a ton bruh. Come on, you have to help me here."

A throaty laugh escaped Bex' mouth as he lifted his weight off of Kenlan and stood up straight. "You idiot." Kenlan mouthed, they sauntered towards me at a slow pace. "Hey come on you two, it's late. Kenlan if you're well enough to show your face at The Dome, you can come to school tomorrow."

My brother quietly walked into the house and into his room, leaving me with Bex. "Your parents claim that they don't love you, but they're honestly do look out for you Yana." I ignored his comment and continued walking to my room. I walked into my room but before closing the door I pointed out my parents room, or as Kenlan thinks it is- the guest room.
