After about a week I went back to school. I’m glad Hannah stayed off with me because she looked after me. She didn’t let me leave my room for 3 days. She took my phone because everyone was texting or calling to see if I was ok. We spent the rest of the week trying to work out what to say to people. Hannah had already asked the nurse not to say anything. We worked on our “plan” so much that we had every scenario covered.

I packed all my books and then went to pick up my swim bag when it all came flooding back. He knew. Today was going to be so hard. Hannah must have sensed something was up because she put her arm around me and told me everything was be fine. We went into the car and then drove to school.

I got out of the car and looked at the building. My heart was in my throat. It raced faster than ever. My thoughts were interrupted when some ones had landed on my shoulder.

“Hey are you feeling better?” Sophia asked me. She was the schools busy body. Knew everything...and told everything. Hannah nodded to me to use our planed line.

“Yeah far better. Food poisoning. It’s a killer.” I waited a second then gave a big smile.

“Oh... we all had a bet going that you were pregnant. LOL.” I kept my smile.

“God really! Thanks (!)” I laughed it off and Sophia laughed back. “We got to get to class. Cya later, Sophia.”

All day people asked questions on how I was and the answer was the same every time. ‘I’m fine. Food poisoning. It’s a killer!’ Every time that was the answer. But know the tough part came. Swimming. Well that wasn’t the hard part. It was seeing Nick since he stormed out the hospital. I’m not shocked he did it. But it is his baby too and I shouldn’t have to do it by myself.

Hannah and I walked to the pool. My hands were shaking so she held on to my hand. I went into the changing rooms and put my bag down. I started getting changed and once I got my swim suit one I had to go. I went to push the door open and closed my eyes and then pushed it open. He stood there on the other side of the room looking at a clip board. I went and sat with the others. I wanted to keep my head low but Hannah told me never to do that and just keep standing tall. To looked him right in the eye and have confidence. He began doing the register and went through the names. When he got to mine he paused. “Rebecca Keller.” He began the next name without giving me a chance to reply. I interrupted him “Here sir.” His eyes darted up to mine and I remember to keep my head up and don’t show any weakness. “Feeling better?”

“Yes sir. Food poisoning.” I raised my eyebrows at him.

“Are you sure your meant to be back to swimming?”

“Yes. No doubt.”

“Well I just don’t want to get wet again.” The class laughed but I didn’t.

“Thank you about that sir. And don’t worry I don’t plan on doing it again.”

“Well...”He looked his feet “...it’s my job.”He looked at me. We both looked at each other and it only broke when I looked away. “Yes...right...everyone in the pool.”

I slowly got up and made my way to the pool everyone had got in when I noticed Nick looking at me. I looked back. “Can I see you after Miss Keller?”

“Yes sir.” He smiled at me then I got in the pool.

After I got dressed I went to Nicks office like he asked. His door was open. He was sitting at his desk with his head in his hands. They ran up his face and through his hair. I stepped forward. “Knock knock.” I smiled at him. He jumped up and flatted his hair. “Hi...” He looked at me in the eyes but didn’t say anything. I coughed. “... Oh yes emm...” He jumped up and pulled out a chair. “...sit...has everyone left?” I went to sit on the chair.

“Yeah they’ve all gone.”

“Good. Good. Well we need to talk.”

“Yeah we do I guess.”

“Ok so what are we going to do about...?” He pointed to my belly.

“You mean the baby. I don’t know I’m not sure. I want to keep it but it would mean too many questions. But I could face abortion.”

“What about adoption?”

“I would still have to go through the pregnancy and everything. There would still be questions.”

“Well I picked these up for you at the hospital...” he reached into his drawer and pull out leaflets. He handed them to me. “...I want you to know that I never intended on leaving you.... I mean by yourself. I never wanted to hurt you or your feelings. I just had to leave. It was too much.”

“It’s ok. I understand. I’ve been there. I am there.” We laughed.

“Ok so whatever you need, you can ask me ok?” He stood up.

“Thanks Nick...sir.” I smiled. I stood up and got a head rush. “Whoa” Nick rushed over. “I’m fine. Just a head rush.” I looked at him. He looked so panicked and white. I put my hand on his arm. “Chill!” He smiled then looked at my hand. “Emm...” I pulled my hand away. “I better be going. Hannah’s waiting for me.”

“Ok Cya tomorrow.”

I left his office and turned the corner. I don’t know why but I stayed for a moment out of sight and then looked back. He sat at his desk the same way I found him earlier. I then his head turned up as my phone went off. I pulled back and ran off. “Hannah!” I shouted in a whisper. “I know I’m coming!” I looked back and smiled. I hoped he would follow me but he didn’t. “No. It was fine. I’m nearly there. Bye!”
