Nicks POV
I unbuttoned her shirt and helped her get it over her arms. I then went down and rolled up her vest top. I bit my lip at the sight of her wound. “This is going to hurt ok?”
“Hurt more than being shot?” She said with a smirk.
“How do you still have that sense of humour?”
“Keeps me from thinking about the real stuff.” She looked up at me with sad eyes.
“Well keep doing it. Ok?” I reached up and rubbed her face lightly with my thumb. “Ok ready?” She nodded. I took the cotton and poured on a little alcohol rub on it then dabbed it on her skin. I wiped up the dry blood first then worked my way down to the bullet. I looked up at her and she was worried...again. “Come on, where’s that humour.” I smiled and she looked at me.
“I don’t want it to hurt anymore.” I sighed.
“I know but if I don’t clean it up then it will get worse.” She nodded her head. I reached down but just before I got to her skin she grabbed my arm. “What is it?”
“Hold my hand.” I took her hand and continued. I reached her skin and she flinched. Her grip on my hand tightened.
“It’s ok. Nearly done.” I finished wiping up the blood. Then went down and got a large wound cover. Then I placed it down over the cut. “Ok done. Just try and keep pressure on that.”
“Thanks. Emm Nick?”
“Mmm.” I was packing away everything.
“What- What about the...baby.” I froze and looked up facing the other way. I turned round.
“I want to say everything will be fine but to be honest I can’t say that. I don’t know about the baby. I mean you lost so much blood and –” She interrupted me.
“I’m so stupid.”
“What do you mean?”
“He told me not to look but I did.”
“No you weren’t stupid. I was just natural. You were nervous and paranoid. So when you heard a noise your body just told you to look. If anything it’s my fault.”
Beccas POV
“How is it your fault?”I said trying to hide the overwhelming pulse of pain.
“If I had been more careful I wouldn’t have made a noise and you wouldn’t have looked and –” He stopped and looked at me with teary eyes.
“Hey. It’s not your fault. He was going to shoot me anyway.” I looked at him. He sighed clearly not believing me. “We are never going to decide it was no one’s fault...well except the shooter. Let’s just blame him. Ok?” I smiled at him.
“Ok we’ll just say that.” He smiled back. Suddenly the pain got too much and I closed my eyes and hissed through my teeth. “You ok?” He put his hand on my leg. “Becca?”
“Yeah I’m fine. It’s just sore.”
“I wish I could make it better.”
“You’ve done enough.”
“I haven’t. Not until I get you out of here.”
“Yeah how are we going to do that? I can’t move.”
