Jake. He looked around and his eyes locked with mine. I pulled my eyes away after a minute and hoped he wouldn’t come over here.
“Are you guys done?” I asked.
“Yeah.” Mackenzie answered for Zac and Morgan who were too busy talking to even pay attention to me.
“Then come on, let’s go.” I urged.
Mackenzie gave me a questioning look and I glanced at Jake who is waiting for his food and talking to his friends, not even looking at me. I sighed in relief and Mackenzie looked. Her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped.
“Are you serious?” She asked shocked.
“Yupp. I can’t believe he’s here. I knew this day was getting way too good.” I said. “Come on, guys, let’s go.”
We all scooted out of the booth and headed toward the door. I held my head high and didn’t refuse to look at him. Just as we’re walking out the door I feel his eyes on my back but I keep walking and try to ignore it.
When we get outside I start to relax, until I feel a hand on my shoulder. I stop in my tracks and as soon as Mackenzie realizes it so does she and she’s right by my side.
“Mackenzie, take Zac and Morgan to the car, I’ll be there in a minute.” I told her.
“But-“ She started.
“It’s okay. I got this. It won’t be long.” I assured her.
“Fine, but I’ll be right over there.” She eyed Jake and walked away. I watch her walk to the car and put Morgan and Zac in then turn to Jake.
He looked nervous. He has his hands in his pockets and is looking at the ground.
“Yes?” I asked.
He looked up, gave me a sheepish smile, and, “Hey.”
“Hi.” I said. “Look, people are waiting for me. I don’t really have all night.”
“I know. Look, I just wanted to apologize for earlier. I acted like a jerk.” He said. I can tell her really means it.
“That’s an understatement. That really hurt. You can’t just threaten to break up with someone every time you don’t get your way, especially if that person is me.” I told him. I didn’t mean for it to come out harshly but I couldn’t help it. He really hurt me and there’s no way I’m giving him another chance.
“I know, I know. I really just wanted to know what your bug secret was. I never should I said that. I wouldn’t have broken up with you. I was a jerk, a dick, am ass. Call me anything you want. Just please forgive me and give me another chance.” He pleaded.
“I can’t do that. I can’t risk getting hurt again just because you apologized and want another chance.” I stated, turning to walk away. “Goodbye, Jake.”
He grabbed my arm turning my back around, “Wait. I love you, Sierra.”
“What?” I asked in shock.
“I love you. I was going to tell you tonight. After you told me your secret I wanted to take you somewhere, I had everything planned.” He admitted.
My mouth hung open in shock. “I-I-“ I started, but before I could answer he grabbed me and kissed me.
For a minute I was so shocked I just stood there, then I came to my senses and pushed him away.
I slapped him across the face and asked him, well…yelled, “What do you think you’re doing?!”
He was so shocked; he just looked at me, but finally said, “I guess I deserved that.”
