As I woke up, I felt the toll of the previous days events, as my while body was aching. I didn't move, snuggling further into the covers. Opening my eyes, I squinted as I tried to focus on my surroundings. After blinking a few times, I found that I was nose to nose with Ward, who was still asleep himself. I glanced at the clock on the beside table and it read six thirty. Sighing, I flopped !y head back down on the pillow, wishing that I was anywhere but here. Maybe I could just fall asleep again, the problems seemed to disappear when I was dreaming.
There were no parts of my body that were normal, I was aching all over. My cheek had swollen, I could feel it. I went to touch it but winced as I did so.
"Don't do that." Ward croaked out causing me to jump a little.
"Oh god, why would you do that." I breathed out.
He stretched out, showing his muscles as he did so."Seriously, you'll make it worse. Just try not to touch it too much."
"I was just seeing how big it was."
"It looks normal," he held my chin in his fingers, tilting my head slightly,"I don't think you'll need as much makeup today."
I pushed his hand away."Don't touch me without my permission. "
"Well, do I have your permission?"
"No and you never will."
"What happened to you overnight? You're starting to stand up for yourself."
As I got ready, I tried to open the window in the bathroom but it was locked. Ward had probably blocked any escape routes, meaning that I couldn't outsmart him, he was a top agent for gods sake.
Ward was ordering room service whilst he was still lying in bed, dressed now. Glancing to the living room, I saw his bag, containing the files that he had taken from me. But I couldn't snoop through it now, he would catch me.
Our breakfast was brought up to us. We sat at the table, opposite each other, but I wouldn't look at him. Slowly eating the food off of my plate, I could feel his eyes on me. Did he not know that it was completely unnerving? His phone rang and he excused himself before jogging to the bedroom. My gaze landed on his bag again, which was lying on the sofa. Could I take it now? Glancing over me shoulder, I summed up what could happen; (a) I could successfully grab the file I needed and hide it somewhere, (b) I could get caught and hurt even more, or (c) I could leave it and not be put in any more pain.
He seemed to begetting more into the conversation as his voice had raised a little. Slowly getting up from my seat, I tip-toed over to the bag, unbuckling it quickly. Frantically looking through the files, I found the one I needed; but when I was Ward's name, I had to grab it. Knowing that I'd have to hide them, I pulled away a part of the sofa and shoved it in there. Rushing back to the table, I began eating again. After a few minutes, Ward walked back through. My heart was beating uncontrollably as he walked past the table.
I watched him as he gathered up his tablet, gun and bag. For a moment, I thought that he was going to look through them but luckily he just slung it over his shoulder.
"Garrett has called everyone back. You can't come. There are guards all around and inside the hotel. You know the rules buy now." He said before walking out of the room. I heard a locking sound after him.
I waited for half an hour just to be safe and the fact that I was paranoid was telling me not to look at the files until I knew it was safe. Shutting all of the curtains, I took the files and ran to the bathroom. There could be cameras and the only place that wouldn't have them is the bathroom, well, at least I hoped so.
Spreading them both out on the floor, I saw that Ward and Garrett had a past together. Ward had been trained by Garrett, and it seemed that Ward's past had a lot more pain than I had thought. I had no clue how long I was in there, I had read each page in the file at least three times, trying to soak in as much information as possible.
The front door to the hotel room was being opened and I panicked. The bathroom door was locked but where was I supposed to hide the files?! In the cabinet under the sink, I took all of the bottles out, putting the files in there, then covered them back up with the bottles. Ward hadn't called for me yet, which worried me. Had he come back or was it just one of the guards?
Three knocks came from the door and without thinking, I opened it. The man standing outside was not one of ours. Before I could slam the door shut again, he grabbed me harshly, pulling me out of the room by my t shirt, papers flying everywhere. Throwing me to the floor, he alerted others through his headpiece. Whilst he was distracted, I scrambled to my feet and dashed towards the door. His heavy footsteps were close behind me.
As I darted out of the hotel room, I saw that there were dead bodies lying all the way down the corridor. Jumping over them, I ran towards the stairs knowing that the lift was not an option. Screaming out, I prayed that someone would hear me and alert someone downstairs to call the police. Maybe this was my chance to get away from Hydra too.
Looking back, I saw that he was close. He suddenly stopped running and aimed his gun at me. I tried to run faster as the bullets hit the area around me. Exiting the stairs, I found myself back in a hotel corridor, on the fourth floor. Trying to catch my breath, I began to run again, hoping to get to the lift this time.
As I got closer, I started feeling a little bit calmer. The door lifts opened but I was pushed in there. Screaming out, someone grabbed me and covered my hand. I was spun around and came face to face with Ward. He removed his hand from my mouth and whimpers were all that could be heard. Without thinking, I threw my arms around him, holding him close to me. He tried to soothe me as the lift kept on descending. Suddenly, it jerked to a halt, the lights flickering.
"Shit." Ward said.
"Oh god, we're trapped." I stressed, holding myself.
Ward pulled apart the doors, revealing that we were stuck between two floors. The gap between us and the bottom floor was too small to fit through so we had to climb through the top. Ward hoisted himself up, crawling through the small space, before offering his arms out to me. I had to jump up, due to my small height, wriggling through with ease.
As we stood, we could hear shouting from down the corridor. Ward stood in front of me, pointing his gun towards where the sounds were coming from. The door to the stairs burst open and three men came filing out. Ward and I began to step away, trying to distance us more from the men. Ward threw the bag at me then started walking towards the men.
"Who are you!?" He shouted at them.
"Hand over the woman." They ignored him.
"Why? Why do you want her?"
"Just give her to us and we'll be on our way."
"I'm afraid that's not possible."
Ward shot one of them, making them collapse onto the floor. The other two charged towards him, Ward having to attack both sat the same time. His gun was taken off of him, shoved to the side. I was just stood there, helpless, not able to do anything. He was struggling, losing really badly to the others. I kept telling myself no but I ran towards the gun, aiming it at one of the men. My shaky hands accidentally pulled the trigger, the sound was louder than I expected causing me to scream. A cry of pain followed my scream, as one of the men fell to his knees, having been shot in the chest.
Ward quickly took out the other guy, making sure they were all dead. I dropped the gun, realising that I had just shot someone, with a gun.
"Come on, we need to leave." Ward grabbed my hand and the bag, before dragging me past the bodies and to the stairs.
