The building was nothing like I was expecting. We were taken out into the middle of nowhere and in the middle of the huge green field was an even bigger dome building. It was pure white which reflected the sun off of it, blinding our eyes a little. As we all stepped out of the car, a man in his late forties approached us with his own team of guards. Garrett stood in front of us all and we were surrounded by our agents. It felt as if we were having a standoff.

"Garrett, it's been a long time." the man said, his hands behind his back.

Garrett smiled."Well, I wouldn't say that-"

"It's been two decades." the man interrupted.

"Alright, Ryle, enough with the introductions. Are you going to take us in or not?"

"This way." the man said, smiling politely.

We trekked down the long path towards the building. Ryles' guards surrounded us and our agents, marching in sync as if they were robots. I stayed close to Grant, not feeling safe with the amount of guns around me even though Grant was carrying his own. The doors to the dome were also big and revealed a circular hallway with a glistening chandelier.

"Before we continue, we require your weapons, all of them." Ryle stated as two of his guards walked around with a bucket each.

Our agents frowned as they emptied their multiple weapons into the buckets. I wasn't surprised by how many they were dumping, there were guns and knives, all of them different sizes. The buckets were almost overflowing as they locked them away.

"Thank you for cooperating. Now, Miss Hills and Garrett, if you would like to follow me." Our agents started to follow but they were stopped."I only require the people I called out. The rest of you stay here."

I looked back towards Grant and he saw the panic on my face. He nodded at me, before following the others as they were escorted out of the room. I watched as he walked away, feeling lonely now that he wasn't beside me. Garrett brought my attention back to the situation as I too was taken out of the room. Ryle entered a code on a tablet and a door opened swiftly after. His guards stood either side of the door but none followed us in.

It was a huge library which was (again) pristine white. I didn't want to touch anything in fear that I would get it dirty. Our footsteps echoed around the room, making us seem smaller than we actually were. Rule gestures for us to sit at a desk with a computer on it. He sat as well, typing away at the computer before speaking.

"Well Bethan," he turned to face me, clapping his hands together,"are you ready to look into your past?" his smile was menacing.

"I don't have a choice do I?" I snapped.

"You were right Garrett, she's feisty." Ryle stood up, walking towards a bookshelf."Though she probably got that from her grandmother."

He came back to the desk with various files with different names and dates. I glanced over them, seeing my family name. Garrett leaned over to take them but Ryle slammed his hand down on them, causing me to jump.

"No! You are not permitted to touch!" he raised his voice."Only when Miss Hills here gives permission may you take them."

"She isn't going to let me see them! Just hand it over."

"I can't. It's against the rules." he stood up with the files and walked around the desk to me."Here you are my dear."

I took them out of his hands, trembling under the hard gaze of Garett. I didn't dare look at him As I would break. Garrett and Ryle kept on arguing whilst I debated whether to open the files. Now that I had the power over Garrett, I had a lot to think about. But that was short lived as Garrett trapped me in my chair, placing his hands on either side of it.

"Bethan," he tried to remain calm,"you don't know how long I've been waiting for those files, and know, they are right in front of me, in the arms of a pathetic little girl!"

"Listen, I'll give them to you," he smiled until I started talking again,"but on one condition!"

"Name it."

"I have to read through all of these files first. No one touches them until I say so."

Garrett hesitated before sighing."I don't have much time Bethan."

"It's not fair that I don't know anything about my past and you're the one's who get all the information."

"I'm going to make a compromise, just for you. You have until tomorrow morning."

"What!? That's not enough-"

"You will remember that I am in charge and I can do whatever I please with you. Remember what happened last time?"

I cringed at the thought."Fine. You'll get them tomorrow."

"Excellent. Well, now that we have this all sorted, I need to have a quick chat with Garrett here, and then you'll be able to leave." Ryle led me towards the door, opening it for me with a push of a button.

The guards took no notice of me when I was basically pushed out. I took a few steps forward, not sure where to go. I heard other footsteps and soon saw who they belonged to.

"Grant!" I called out, running towards him.

He caught me in his arms, caressing my hair as he comforted me. We pulled away, the files now the only things seperating us. My fingers traced around the edges of them.

"So? Have you found out anything?" he asked.

"I haven't read them yet. But I have until tomorrow morning." I sighed.

"We'll get you through them, I'll do whatever I can to help."

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My hands were shaking ferociously as I spread out the files across the bed. There were three to choose from and although it wasn't a big number, I felt as if there were a million in front of me. I didn't know which one to chose first and it was killing me. I wasn't even sure whether I wanted to anymore.

"Come on, you have to open one. You only have until morning." Grant said once again.

"Grant, please shut up! This is a big thing for me, I can't just decide." I snapped.

He ignored my harsh tone."Just make sure that you get them read. Garrett won't let you see them ever again." I nodded as he missed my lips before he laid down to sleep.

Taking a deep breath in, I closed my eyes and grabbed a file at random. This was it, this was when I would find out the truth about my past.
