Thantalus and his crew approached the Hive. Strange black rock and prices of metal shining with some unknown energy covered the ground around them. Thantalus Susanna and Alex watched as hive bustled in and out.

Susanna held onto Thantalus' arm. Even though she was a Titan, a staunch defender against the darkness, the Hive scared her. She had heard stories of the Hive and the Taken capturing Guardians and doing things to them. She didn't even want her imagination to wander. She gripped Thantalus' arm a little tighter.

He looked at her, "It'll be fine, just a quick in and out mission. No big deal."

Thantalus wasn't so sure himself though. Eris returning bothered him, something wasn't right. The timing of her return, the startling uprising of the Hive in old Chicago, was to coincidental, too... Perfect. He shook his head. I've gotta keep focused.

Thantalus turned toward Alex and Susanna, "Lets go. We can't have the Hive waiting for us huh?"

The three set up positions an all three sides of the clearing, the fourth was a rock face with the Hive Door in it. The comms plinked on,
"All right," Thantalus voice was at a whisper, "three...two...one!"
All three guardians leaped out of their positions guns blazing. The firefight was short and clean. Only a few Hive were out there and their bodies laid dead.  They gathered at the door, it opened slowly. The foul stench of Hive wafted out, and a heavy air came rushing. The three guardians entered.

At the Tower

Ikora rushed to the Med Bay, Eris was still half asleep, muttering incoherent words. Ikora found Zavala and Shaxx there talking quietly. The door closed behind her and the two guardians looked up, Shaxx spoke

"We've been keeping an eye on her, trying to figure out how she came back after all these years."

The large Titan scratched his head, his hair was cut short and long battle scars from past battles covered his face. Ikora laughed and made a mocking gesture toward him,
"I didn't know Titans were bred to think!"
She smiled as a taken back look came from Zavala. She was in a good mood although worried for Eris.
Just then the scanners started alarms and Eris' body began to jerk around, as if she was being possessed. The two Titans ran and pinned Eris to the bed trying to give the med bots enough time to sedate her Eris paused and sat up, despite the weight of the Titans pushing down on her, she spoke, in a raspy chilling voice, looking straight at Ikora

"We, have come... Hell's Gate has opened and the ritual has begun, Death, is coming."

She sank back into the bed, dead. Cayde was standing by the door the entire time, no one noticed him until he spoke,

"Well... Wasn't she just cheery..."
He exited the room in a hurry with the other two vanguard leaders and Shaxx close behind.

In Old Chicago

Thantalus walked at the lead if the line, Susanna behind him and Alex trailing close behind her. They were slowly making their way into the Hive pit, they didn't meet much resistance as a few Thralls roamed through the corridors. Alex's comms plinked in,

"Where are all the Hive, a complex this size has to have more, and there's got to be a wizard controlling these thrall."

As he finished his last words as they reached a crossroads, a low humming filled the corridors. It was loudest to their left. Susanna and Alex looked to Thantalus.

"Let's go see what's going on, shall we" he said.
Susanna walked close behind his back as they went down the hall. As noble and fearless as the Titans were, she didn't like the Hive caverns, they scared her.
As they approached the hall the humming turned into singing, not a beautiful singing but a raspy, ritual like chanting. Alex looked up,
