I don't even wait for Bell, I just jump right into to the action. "Hey, Thomas. You got an extra weapon?" I ask. "Yeah.. Uh, you're going to have to get it though. Kind of in the middle of something." He motions to the griever creature.  "Okay, where is it." I question. "Pocket, back.... one." He manages to get out as a griever thing almost pushes him to the ground.

I roll my eyes. I reach to grab it. This is totally unsafe. I tell myself and lunge at the griever object going after Minho. "Thanks Cora. One down, fifty million to go." Minho sasses. I laugh and then get back to work on killing the grievers. "Cora! Tell them that you have to get inside the box. If you make inside the box that these things came in, they take you to headquarters to get the cure." Bell yells. She found a large stick and is helping fight. Will Bell even come with us? She might be killed. Am I going back to WICKED, either? I need the cure. "Cora, you coming or you gonna fight these yourself?" Frypan asks. I rush over to the box. "Bell, come on!" I shout. She shakes her head. She's not coming. I race to Bell, despite the calls of worry I get from the boys. "Are you sure?" I ask her. She can't quite come to an answer. I just hug her. "I've seen what WICKED does to people. I'll have Cameron sneak me in and find a way to you guys." She tells me. Her lip is quivering. This is the strongest 14 year old I've ever met. "Cora!" Newt yells. The secret from the van! I turn to them and put up my pointer finger. The griever things are too busy attacking themselves at the moment. "One thing, real quick." I start. "In the van, you said you lied to Teresa and Thomas and Newt. You said what you did to Thomas and Teresa, but not Newt. What did you lie to Newt about? Whatever you say, I won't hold it against you." She starts to cry and shake her head. "I can't tell you. You care so much about him, I can't hurt you like that." She mumbles. I've never seen her cry like this. Not even when I was minutes away from killing her. "Please, I'll always be your friend. No matter how bad it is. Please just tell me." I plead to her. "Bell! Cora watc---"The boys are cut off by a long pointy griever tail striking the ground inches from me. "Promise you'll tell me when you see me again." She nods and we both run our separate ways.

The doors don't shut as soon as I arrive into the box. What is going on? There must be a switch or something. I look around. Nothing. The box finally starts to shut and a small screen appears on one of the walls. It's a T.V. with Ava Paige front and center.

"Welcome back. You have survived the Scorch. It's now time to begin Phase Three."

Three weeks. That's how long I've been in this white, perfect cell. I've only been allowed to have one person come in, and that's the guys who brings me my food. Oh, and guess who hasn't showed the whole time in the Scorch? Yeah, and guess who hasn't been able to shower three extra weeks in who-knows-where-Vile.

The door jerks open. It Ratman, yay. "Wooh. Glad I came in here when I did. Smell like that one more day and we would have all been dead." He laughs at his own joke. I just sit there with a board expression on my face. "That means get up. It's time for a reunion, the cure information, and most definitely before anything else, a shower." Ratman pinches his nose and motions for me to follow him out of the room.

Once I'm done with all my personal hygiene issues, Ratman leads me into what he calls "The commons." "Cora!" Everyone shouts when I get there. I hug everyone. I haven't seen them in so long, omg. "Alright, listen up. We have business to discuss." Ratman states. Everyone quiets down. "So, the Scorch was a success. Lots of you made it back. The reason we decided it would be best to put you into somewhere where the virus is actively spreading, is to see how the virus acts on those of you who are immune." Wait, what? Did he just say that the wanted to put us in a place with a shucking scary brain virus because some of us don't need a cure? "Then, if some of us don't need a cure, then is there even a cure to give?" I ask. Ratman just looks at me and smiles. "Not exactly. Some of you are immune, not all. As of right now, there is no cure. That's why it was so important for a second stage, To see what made immunies so special." Ratman explained,

"Are you going to tell us who isn't immune?" Harriet asks.

"Of course. Wouldn't want to keep you in the dark." Ratman smirks and pulls out a clip board. "The following are not immune. Shalissa, Newt..."

No. This can't be right. Newt has to be immune. I think back to what Bell said the last time I saw her. "You care about him too much, I couldn't hurt you like that." I suddenly feel ill as the truth sinks in. He's not immune.

"Radford." Ratman continues. "Cora."

I freeze. Newt and I, We're not immune.

Hiiii guys. So, plot twist!!! I hope you guys are in joying my story. I have so much planned for book 3 in this book, like I'm overflowing with ideas. Please comment and tell me what you think. 5 likes/stars for the next chapter and if you're reading this right now: Go read Bell's (from the story. Her real name is Pene) story, Under Wicked Lies. It kind of goes with my story. My character is in her story. Wattpad is being a butt and won't let me take her so her user will be in the comments.

XOXO,

Shelby Sangster
