-Home Sweet Home-
Silence filled the van as Samuel drove to a destination Olivia was still unsure of. Once they hit the main road not much had been said, and Olivia was relieved for she really wasn't in the mood for small talk. True, she still yearned for an explanation of the night's gruesome events, but decided it could wait. She was mentally exhausted and wasn't really feeling well physically.
As she lay her head on the large van window she noticed how the glass felt so cool and inviting against her skin. She stared up in to the clouds that were quickly moving out of the area.
Olivia wished she was anywhere else but her current location, especially since they had been driving for about an hour and an half, all the while her ass was becoming increasingly sore. Olivia winced in pain as she accidentally bumped the wound on her arm.
"Ssss..." She hissed as she squinted her eyes to try and look at it closer. The blood was beginning to clot thicker and thicker, yet the smell seemed odd to her. There were traces of the typical metallic odor blood possessed, but there was also something else she couldn't quite put her finger on.
She needed to see a doctor. Since they had left the warehouse she had also acquired a killer headache along with more cramping muscles. Olivia felt feverish as well, or perhaps that was due to her rattled nerves, she wasn't sure.
"Something wrong?" Macon asked in a tone that suggested he really couldn't care less if she were okay or not.
"Oh, not in the slightest. It's just your friend ripped a chunk of my arm out with his teeth, is all. Nothing a little infection can't cure." She said mockingly. Olivia noticed Caroline placing her hand about her face, fighting back a giggle.
"Here." Macon said as he effortlessly tore a strip of cloth off the bottom of his shirt. He handed the makeshift bandage to Olivia and turned his attention once again toward the window on his side.
Dick, she thought. The nerve of this guy, to be so... crude.
"Thanks for the help." She offered with as much sarcasm as she could muster. She wrapped the cloth around her forearm the best she could and had to use her teeth to tie it as tight as possible. She thought of asking them about stopping by a hospital, but knew it would never happen. This was a kidnapping, plain and simple. Those that were kidnapped didn't get special treatment, her father taught her that.
"Anytime Olive." He answered nonchalantly.
"It's Olivia." She corrected him, her eyes narrowing into thin slits directed his way.
"He knows what your name is." Caroline offered as she turned to face them. "Macon suffers from a condition where he believes it's cute and funny to disparate the opposite sex when ever he has the opportunity. I call it being an asshole, but I'm no doctor and can't actually diagnose him."
"Fuck you."
"Fuck yourself." Caroline retaliated.
"You two please just knock it off." Samuel added. Daylight was beginning to break through the horizon, and as the area became easier to see she realized she didn't recognize anything.
"Where are we going?" Olivia questioned, barely able to keep her head upright.
"We're heading home." Macon said half exasperated. He turned toward her once again. "Look, I know this hasn't been a picture perfect day for you girl, but it hasn't been a joy for us either. I can't even imagine what Ms. Anna is going to say. So just relax and be quiet."
"I beg your pardon?" Olivia offered quickly. Macon turned toward her with a fury deep within his thinly slit eyes. He smiled slightly, but Olivia new it was forced.
"Shut the fuck up." He spat as he held her gaze. "Is that a bit clearer an answer for you?"
"Macon, chill out man. She didn't choose any of this." Samuel added in Olivia's defense, yet the comment only furthered his anger.
"Did any of us? Did you choose? Were you given the choice to be a... fucking freak of nature, huh?" Macon barked in his direction.
"Macon, please." Caroline whispered, obviously shaken by the seriousness and tone of his outburst.
"I'm sorry." Olivia whispered, a sudden spout of dizziness passing behind her eyes. "I'll be quiet."
"That's all I ask." Macon whispered, and just like that, a thick silence once again filled the van.
*****
Olivia's headache worsened with each passing mile, and wave after wave of nausea came over her. She placed her fingers upon her neck just below her jaw bone. Her pulse came in erratic rhythm as she began to feel faint. A cough revealed clot after clot of blood, yet the others paid no mention to her worsening condition.
Dawn was upon them, yet Olivia was unable to enjoy the sunlight passing through the limbs of the trees, for her eyesight became unfocused. Samuel slowed as he pulled the van in to the drive of a massive cemetery. He parked the vehicle behind the largest of the crypts, near the tree line at the furthest corner of the graveyard.
"It's about fucking time." Macon said as he quickly opened the van's sliding door and approached the crypt's elegant wooden and cast iron entrance. "Don't forget the girl, Samuel." He added.
"Macon." Caroline said in a voice only slightly louder than a whisper. He turned and saw her and Samuel standing at the van door he had left opened.
"Yes." He answered exasperated yet as politely as he could at the moment. All Macon could think of was wanting just a little peace and quiet. His eyes met theirs and he noticed thatthe two shared a look of pure confusion and horror.
"She's dead." Samuel said flatly.
"What?" Macon questioned. He took a few paces back in the direction of the vehicle, truly unsure if he had heard him correctly.
"Olivia's dead." He rephrased, yet his words still held a honest truth. Samuel's eyes turned and met the lifeless body of Olivia Constantine, then back to his older brother.
"That's impossible."
