David consoled his grieving wife to the best of his ability over the phone. Although he too had lost his only child, his mind also raced due Sheriff Taylor's mentioning 'inconsistencies' involving his daughter's accident.

"Kat, I've got to go. I need to get up here to the scene of the accident and speak with the sheriff. "

"I understand." She whispered in between fading sobs.

"I'll call you back as soon as I can." He offered. The line was silent a moment before Kat asked.

"David?"

"Yeah?"

"If for some reason you find out that this wasn't an accident, you do everything you can to help the police catch whoever's responsible." She pleaded.

"I will." He promised. David scratched the back of his neck nervously with his free hand as he looked in the direction of the abandoned warehouse. "I love..." He began to say, before Kat quickly ended the call.

David slowly made his way up the muddy gravel drive toward the scene of the accident, but was met by Sheriff Taylor mere feet from the burnt wreckage of Matt's car.

"Are you sure you're up for this, David? I know I don't have to say this, but it's a truly horrific sight." The sheriff offered. Although he doubted he looked the part, with his swollen bloodshot eyes and deeply saddened expression, David new that helping with the investigation was what Olivia would have wanted.

"Yes. I'm sure." He answered. Sheriff Taylor stepped aside and allowed David to take in the full, unobstructed view of the wreckage.

Bile instantly rose from his stomach the moment he laid eyes on what was left of the car. To think, this is where my child passed away, David thought. The charred mangled metal resembled the end result of a demolition derby, and the smell was even more revolting. Most of the car's interior was melted away by the flames.

"Where are... the bodies?" David asked, half choking on the words as he looked inside the wreckage.

"The scene investigators have already been through and taken pictures of everything. I had the coroner remove them for your sake, but if you must see the bodies I've made sure that the autopsies aren't preformed unless you wish or refuse to be present. You'll just have to let me know." Sheriff Taylor answered.

David made a mental note then to thank the sheriff for his leniency and trust after all this was over. Ever since high school the two men have butted heads, but it was nice to know he could count on the sheriff during this difficult time.

"Yes." David answered. "I would like to be there for the autopsies and get my hands on a copy of those crime scene photos, if you don't mind?"

"Not at all, David."

"So what were these inconsistencies you were referring to earlier?" He asked the sheriff.

"Well, I'm sure you've gathered that the severe damage done to the passanger's side of the car was caused by the wrecking ball and crane parked behind us." The sheriff began. David nodded. "What are the odds that the wrecking ball would have collided with the car at the exact moment the kids were making such a fast exit from this place. We have contacted the crane manufacturers and are waiting for a representative to come inspect the safety mechanisms."

"Fast exit?" David questioned.

"Scene investigators looked over the tire tracks coming from the front of the warehouse and determined that they were driving at least fifty five miles per hour from there to the point of impact."
