-Blue-

Macon's hand fell firmly on the heavy wooden door to the lounge, preventing a still armed Ms. Anna from entering. Their eyes locked swiftly. His, pleaded for her to reconsider this rash decision bred from jealousy. Hers, demanded that he step aside immediately before her judgment was passed to him.

"Look... if she's not awake yet, she will be soon." He offered to nearly deaf ears. Macon could still smell blood and flesh about her breath as she asked in a smooth voice.

"What makes you think that will change my mind?"

"Because once she's awake I know you'll see. I can't put my finger on it, but something about her is different." He pleaded just as the door was opened from the other side. Samuel -with wide eyes- glanced nervously at both of them. He swallowed hard before speaking.

"She's awake... kind of."

"Kind of?" Macon and Ms. Anna questioned simultaneously. The two joined Samuel and Caroline around the seemingly lifeless corpse of Olivia Constantine, laying exactly where Macon had left her atop the couch.

Strangely Ms. Anna stood back a few paces from the sofa which comforted Macon slightly, for she still clutched tight the broadsword.

"This is what you call awake?" Macon asked in a nervous and impatient tone, gesturing with a sarcastically guided hand.

"Just wait..." Samuel said. Olivia's body convulsed violently for a second and she opened her eyes wide. What once were an ordinary brown, now glowed a vibrant shade of blue. Macon recognized the glow in her eyes as a sign of hunger, but never had he seen eyes glow that color.

"Cyan eyes?" Macon heard Ms. Anna whisper from behind him before hearing the broadsword fall to the lounge's stone floor. Olivia once again lost consciousness, leaving the group of four stunned.

"What the hell does this mean?" Macon asked.

"It means that you were right." Ms. Anna answered, the authority in her voice returning. "She is different."

"But..." Caroline began, but couldn't find the words.

"Why are her eyes blue?" Samuel finished. The group turned to Ms. Anna who wore just as much a look of confusion as they did. Their leader lowered her gaze.

"I'll have to consult my literature, but for now, Caroline?"

"Yes ma'am?"

"Ready our guest a room. Samuel, find her something to eat for when she wakes up. Macon..."

"Yes?" He answered as the two locked eyes. He couldn't read the exact expression on her face, but could feel the seriousness that radiated from her.

"Keep close watch on her until I return from my chambers. I'll research what I can, but this may require more knowledge than I possess." She said before abruptly leaving the lounge. Macon's eyes met Caroline's as soon as Ms. Anna was out of earshot.

"Southwest corridor. The spare bedroom next to mine." He insisted. Her eyes went wide, and her mouth followed.

"Okay." Caroline spoke softly. "But wouldn't it make more sense to put her nearer to Ms. Anna?"

"Ms. Anna said I should keep close watch on her, and I intend to do just that." Macon answered, a playful grin peeking through his expression.

"But we don't know what she is. She's different than us, different even more than Ms. Anna, and that could mean dangerous."

"Macon can handle himself Caroline." Samuel added, shooting his brother the same smirk he continued to wear. "Make the bedroom ready for her, as Ms. Anna instructed."
