Elise
Two weeks. It was two weeks ago when my father was attacked and killed. It was two weeks ago when my mother passed away from the loss of her mate of twenty years. Two weeks ago, I was named the next Alpha of the Moon Light Pack.
I will be the first she-wolf of any pack in the history of werewolves. It was crazy that the Elders would even think of me as an Alpha. Why didn't they dismantle our pack? Why didn't they just kill us? We aren't even close to the biggest pack in the United States. In fact, we are the second to smallest.
Most Alphas aren't happy with the Elders' decision. Some are even saying they'll turn their whole pack rogue if I become an Alpha. It's not my fault my brother is missing. It's not my fault my father was an only child. I didn't ask for this!
Today is the ceremony of naming a new Alpha. All Alphas must be present or they will be considered a new rogue pack. One hour until it begins and only seven out of the thirteen Alphas are present. The Elders are even here for this ceremony.
"Elise Davenport?"
I snapped my head up and collided with the other Alpha's head.
"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! Are you okay? I didn't hurt you did I?" I asked, looking up.
"Yeah, I'm oka-"
His eyes met mine and we both stopped. His eyes were so blue they looked like the bottom of the ocean. His dark hair covering part of his left eye. Is he? No. It's not immediate love like what my dad described to me. But there was something there. This wasn't my mate. Then who is he?
He cleared his throat and said, "My apologies. I didn't think I was standing that close to you." He chuckled. "I am Alpha Blaine Sanders of River Run Pack. I wanted to congratulate you on becoming one of us." He smiled warmly at me.
"Thank you, sir," I say, lowering my head.
"No need to lower yourself. You'll gain more confidence as the ceremony ends. You'll be an Alpha soon enough," he says, while smiling at me again.
A loud knocking sounds the room, meaning the Elders want to start the ceremony early.
"Better find our seats. See ya around, Alpha." And with that, Blaine walks off into the crowd.
I find my seat closest to the podium with another Alpha beside me. His glares tell me he's not all for a she-wolf Alpha. I ignore him and look forward into the smiling faces of my pack. The knocking sounds again meaning Elder Thomas wants to begin.
"Why are we starting with two Alphas still unaccounted for and a half hour until high day?" An Alpha at the end asks shooting daggers at me.
"Alpha Bryce and Alpha Nolan can still join any time if they grace us with their presence. We are only proceeding with the opening information," Elder Thomas replied, calmly.
The other Alpha got the hint and sat back down. His glare never ending. I zoned out Elder Thomas updating everyone on the situation of my parents and brother. Simon has been missing since my seventeenth birthday four months ago.
"Ah, Alpha Bryce. Just in time."
I was brought out of my thoughts as a strong power overwhelmed my senses. My eyes widened and I stiffened, I couldn't move. I didn't want to look at the Alpha who had arrived.
"Ms. Davenport, please rise and approach the podium."
My eyes looked up to Elder Thomas but I still couldn't move. I opened my mouth to tell him, but my mouth kept opening and closing, as if I was a fish out of water.
Looking confused, Elder Thomas bent down to hear me better. "Ms. Davenport? Are you alright, dear?"
Finally my mind unfroze and I was able to move and speak again. I stood up from my seat and bowed to everyone in the crowd.
"I understand these are dark times for the Moon Light Pack. Please understand this is also a dark time for myself. I lost my parents and my brother is presumed to be deceased also. I'm young and new to all of this. Please be patient with me as I learn, as I will be patient with all of you for getting used to a new Alpha, a she-wolf at that. This also goes for the Alphas on the stand. I understand some are not willing to change traditions, and to be honest, I don't want tradition to change either. The Elders have decided to spare Moon Light Pack and keep us going, we must respect their decision no matter the unusual gain from it. Thank you for giving me the time to speak and thank you for listening to my unapproved speech."
The crowd erupted in applause, followed by every Alpha present, even Elder Thomas. I have no idea where that speech came from but it just felt right to say and slid off my tongue with ease.
"Couldn't have said that any better Ms. Davenport. Please approach the podium and bow," Elder Thomas held out his hand looking very pleased.
I took his hand and took the step up to the podium and got on my knees, head bowed in silence. Elder Thomas was joined by two more Elders. The formed a triangle around me and started praying to the Moon Goddess. Asking for permission to name me an Alpha and help guide my pack and me through these times of need. A breeze flowed through the room with the smell of spring time. Wet grass, daisies, rain, even something I could only describe as sunshine.
"The Goddess has granted us her blessing. You may now rise, Alpha Elise Mary Rose Davenport. Behold the newest Alpha of Moon Light Pack!" Elder Andrew exclaimed as he turned to the crowd holding up a crown of flowers with a crescent moon in the middle. As I stood, the crown was place on my head. The crowd went wild. Everyone stood in applause and cheering. As I walked to the front of the podium, everyone bowed. The Alphas, the Elders, my pack. Pride and confidence filled my whole body, my being, my soul. This is where my adventure begins.
