Bleep bleep bleep!
I slap my hand on the top of the alarm and fumble for the snooze button. I really can't be asked to do anything in the morning. Period. I groan, and roll over, but instead I tumble to the ground, smacking my face on the wood floor with a loud thump. Phil comes rushing in.
"Are you okay? I heard a crash?" I poke my head out from the duvet at the sound of his voice.
"Yeah I'm fine," I croak. "I just fell out of bed,"
"Just checking." Phil replies, then gently closes the door. At least I'm fully awake, I think. Even though I don't want to be. I stifle a yawn as I pull my duvet up and make my bed.I slip on my dressing gown and tuck my feet into my slippers. Dan is preparing breakfast, and he seems to be making pancakes. I chuckle as he flips a pancake and almost drops it. "Wow," I say, and he turns and grins.
"Yeah, didn't I tell you I was a world star cook?" Dan jokes, as he prepares to flip the pancake again.
"You're better than Delia Smith," I agree, nodding my head in exaggerated idolisation.
"She's a baker!" Phil protests.
"Same thing!" I laugh, giving a dismissive wave of my hand, and earning a chuckle from both men.
The pancake flips in the air and... Splatters on the floor. Dan curses loudly, and me and Phil laugh and laugh. Dan gives up, and turns off the hob. He opens the cupboard, after scooping up the dead pancake and tossing it in the bin, where an array of
cereal boxes are stacked up. Dan tells me to eat any, so I fill up my bowl with Krave and milk. Dan loads up some Weetabix, and Phil begins on his Shreddies. Finally, we are all on the breakfast bar, munching greedily on our cereal."So, what's the plan for today?" I ask.
"Well, I was thinking of us three doing a YouNow introducing you as our daughter and maybe film a main channel video?" Dan suggests.
"Yeah, that sounds awesome!" I say, and Phil nods in agreement.
"Do you want to play some games tonight, maybe Mario Kart or something?" Phil adds, and I smirk evilly.
"You bet I do. Prepare to get your asses kicked by THE YOSHI WARRIOR!"
"Really. Yoshi?" Dan asks, sarcasm all over his face.
"Hell yes Yoshi. Who do you play as?"
"Donkey Kong all the way, bitch" Dan replies smugly.
"Bring it on boy," I say and we shake hands. Me and Dan take video games very seriously, I gather. I've found competition."You need to get ready, Amy!" Phil says, and I groan.
"Speaking of clothes, I bought you a t-shirt, it's on your bed," Dan says, and before I can open my mouth to protest that he didn't have to at all, he ushers me into my room.
Laid out on the bed is a gorgeous red t-shirt with a small white triangle representing the YouTube play button, and little stars around it. I slip into it and put on some skinny jeans and my well worn pair of blue Converse. I'm wrapping my hair around my straighteners to create loose ringlets, when Dan knocks, and I tell him to come in.
"You look amazing" he says, and I blush. I'm still a bit insecure, and not used to compliments, so I don't know how to handle all this.
"I love the shirt so much, it's so nice, Dan!" I exclaim, gesturing to my shirt with the straighteners. Then I start to apply a thin layer of mascara."I don't see how you're not scared of putting that thing near your eyes," Phil says as he pokes his head around the door, and I giggle. "I'm just used to it, I guess"
Everyone is fully ready, and Dan begins to set up the tripod and camera, and then I realise, that I'm about to speak, for the first time in what seems a lifetime, in front of millions of strangers. Inhale. Exhale. You can do this, Amy, I reassure myself.
We get into position on Phil's bed, and Dan hits record, and I take a deep breath as Dan says:
"Hello internet."
