It's been a few weeks since Alex and I had that moment on the shore with the sunset and the sound of the waves crashing on the sand. Summer's almost over now and it is cold by nighttime. We are currently here at the university I'd like to get to; it takes a few hours' drive to get here and the university requires us to live on campus so I may have to go and adjust. I felt Alex intertwine his fingers with mine as we walked one of the halls going to the library, he was tracing the edges of my hands with his thumb and I tried to suppress my smile but I can't. So I smiled anyway, I saw him smiling just as wide in the corner of my eyes. I could get used to this scene for the rest of my life.
"Before we go inside the library, let's go and talk here." He told me and looked out on one of the window; he's still holding my hand tightly.
"Talk about what?" I asked him, looking out on the same window he's got his gaze fixed on.
"Anything, I mean it doesn't matter what we talk about. As long as I'm having that conversation with you, then it's worth having." He told me looking right into my eyes this time. I smile at him and he smiled back at me. Seriously, people who are observing us from far away would think we're crazy. But it doesn't matter, as long as we're crazy together.
"We should go and check out the library because they're going to close soon." I whisper to him and he smiled and nodded his head like a child.
We made our way inside and the moment our feet met the library's redwood floor, it felt different. I closed my eyes and filled my lungs with the smell of wonder, knowledge and everything in between. There's something about books that always amazed me. Reading them is like dreaming with your eyes open, things occurring just at the back of your mind but feeling as if you experienced them yourself. It's a trance—maybe the best trance after love itself. I looked over to Alex and I saw him with his eyes closed too. He opened them immediately and looked at me like it was his routine to check if I'm still beside him, regardless if he's holding my hand or not.
"Miss Lit. Major." He whispered and I kind of laugh at his statement. I'm going to take literature major just because I've always been in love with writing. Although I may not look like it, trust me, I am.
"You fit that title more than me." I whisper back at him and he raised both of his eyebrows and smiled playfully at me. Alex is taking a course related to medicine but I think that he fits to be a lit. Major more than me. He's really good at having a play with words but I guess medicine was always in his heart, what more can I do but support him.
I was browsing through books about literature and I assume that Alex is somewhere near these shelves or in the medicine related researches. I was shocked when I saw someone's eyes on the other side of the shelf I'm currently in. It took me a few second to realize that those were his eyes, looking right through the spaces of the books, right through me. I smiled at him and he did too. I raised one of the books I'm holding and pointed to the tables on the other side of the library. I saw him nodding and I went on my way. When I sat down, I noticed that there aren't much people here but I somehow imagined myself sitting here in the middle of the academic year and how packed this place could be.
"Hey." He silently said disturbing my thoughts which almost made me stuffy. Thank God he called me out.
"Is there a way for you to start studying here?" I asked him, "Being somewhere this big, alone on my own scares me." I tell him in almost a whisper as I put my head on top of forearm in the table, still looking at him. He pouts his lip for a moment with his eyebrows crossing and then he proceeded to nod.
