A thick, multicolored mist covers Dream’s surroundings. He feels himself floating in a mental prism of light. He looks around, trying to gather what happened to him. He feels gravity dragging him down to the bottom of the prism as his surroundings begin to solidify. He sees Abigail in the midst of the smoke as the prism’s walls fade away. A desolate street builds itself around Abigail as she looks toward the asphalt road. She sees herself lifelessly lying in the arms of a young man. He screams out of anguish, but no sound leaves his mouth.
This is a memory, Dream realizes. Essence mentioned the possibility of seeing the memories of others and how it feels. This is it.
“Yabu!” Abigail shouts to the man holding her. “That’s not me! I’m right here!”
“You’re not,” Abigail hears a voice say behind her.
She spins around to see a blonde woman with a golden halo standing behind her. The woman is wearing an all-white suit with a golden trim that hugs her curves. Her eyes match the golden trim, reflecting wildly in the sunlight.
“Who are you?” Abigail asks in confusion.
“My name is Life,” the woman responds. “A Majestic and the guardian of heaven’s gates.”
“Heaven? So I’m…”
“Yes. You’re dead,” she says slowly. “Yabu can’t see you because you’ve crossed into Meian Earth.”
“Me…ann?”
“Abigail, we don’t have time to play around. You’ll have to get over your shock quickly. Meian Earth is the realm between heaven and hell. Think of it as a spirit world, I guess. The longer you stay here, the more your eyes lose sight of the real world that overlaps this one. Soon, you will be able to only see what is in this dimension, unless, of course, you cross back into the world you know.”
Abigail stares at Life in deeper shock, trying to comprehend all of Life’s information. Life takes a deep breath and steps closer to Abigail. She grabs her hands and looks into her eyes. Abigail feels a calming sensation run through her mind.
“Do you remember how you died?” Life asks.
Abigail glances over to her body and sees blood spilling from her head onto Yabu’s arm. The Cursed Seal flares in his eyes as his mute screams echo into Abigail’s mind.
“It was so quick. I was shot in the back of the head.”
“You were assassinated by Armani Kokoro. He is a deranged part of Yabu’s psyche that escaped into a body of his own. Armani is against everything Yabu stands for and everything he cares about.”
“Right before I died, Yabu said he needed to get me to a safe place.”
“Yeah. He realized Armani’s next move.”
“Why couldn’t he just tell me what was going on?”
“Would you have believed him? Would you have believed that there was someone out there that looked exactly like Yabu Kokoro, a being that was out to destroy his life?”
“I…don’t know,” Abigail mumbles.
“And therein lies the problem. You not knowing...your doubt got you killed.”
“Wow…”
“But, the battle isn’t over. You are an angel now, and the only thing I need you to do is help Yabu the way he tried to help you.”
“How can I do that? I’m dead…”
“Guardian angels are able to cross back onto Earth. Yabu needs a guardian.”
