Hey guys! So I'm really excited for the new story. Here are some things you should know before you read.
1. You should know the places I mention in the story are not real, well besides New York. They're all fake.
2. The story takes place modern day, but the past is slightly different.
3. I know this could not actually happen, but just roll with it. No zombies are going to tear down your door in the middle of the night, but it's always fun imagining.
4. Alright, as you read, Charlotte will be remembering the past. I'll put her memories in italics so you all can tell the difference.
Thank you all so much for reading and I'll update as much as I can!

Present Day
My feet pounded against the metal stairs.
BOOM BOOM BOOM
The mutated snarls echoed behind me and I pushed myself harder. The noises were far from normal. I guess at one point they were human, but the infection has changed everything.
I used to live in a cozy little apartment with my mother and older brother. New York City was a bustling town and it suited me. I never had enough time to look around and it helps me now. I'd be dead if I stopped to enjoy the scenery.
BOOM BOOM BOOM
My brother's name was Matthew. He was obnoxious, but still family. I was never really close with him because of the seven year age gap. So, do the math. If he was alive now, he'd be in his early twenties.
If he was alive now...
BOOM BOOM BOOM
A lot has changed since then. I went to Pontman Middle School up to the age of 13. We were finally the graduating class and I could not have been happier to leave. The summer into Freshman year was when everything happened.
I remember sitting on the couch downstairs with a bowl of popcorn. My mother was at work so it was just Matthew and I. The news was on in the background as I messed around on my phone. I wasn't paying attention to the program until I heard laughing. The screen showed a woman with short black hair and light olive skin. She was sitting in a desk next to an older man. He was saying something to her.
"Yeah Pam, reports got in yesterday that citizens in a small town in Pennsylvania were claiming to have seen... 'zombies'. The police went over and found no evidence. It seems like some prank to me." A man chuckled. His dark blond hair was gelled and combed over to the right side of his head. He had on a clean ironed suit and shiny black shoes. I didn't like him already.
Pam turned to Blondie and nodded. "Yes, it does seem pretty absurd to me. Now, we have John on the weather." I rolled my eyes at their conversation. Zombies don't exist. Those people in Pennsylvania were crazy.
BOOM BOOM BOOM
Now I realize they weren't insane. It's too late to do anything now. I stumbled to the top of the stairs and slammed the thin metal door behind me. I put my back against it to keep everything out.
I pray to God I can keep it shut.
It was a few weeks into the school year when the virus actually impacted my life. I was in class... I can't even remember what period it was anymore. It was a giant blur.
I just remember sitting at a desk with Marcie, my old best friend. The intercom beeped and our principal spoke, sounding nervous.
'Students and teachers, we are evacuating everyone out immediately. Please stay with your classes and leave quickly in a single file line. We will meet on the football field. Teachers, take attendance when you get outside and make sure you have every student." It shut off and people started whispering.
