"You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor, how can anything be seasoned? It is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden."

Jesus teaches us here that we are the salt and light of the Earth. If you've ever seasoned something to greatly with salt you know that it can be bitter, and make you sick to your stomach. However, just the right amount creates a pleasant taste, and a thirst. A thirst for the living Water.

There were two girls on my swim team: one was abrupt about her faith, and debated her beliefs with other in "too much salt" kind of way, but the other was sweet as can be, always going out of her way to do something good for another. Guess who attracted more unbelievers? Guess who was asked why she acts the way she does?
Now to the second half. A light shines, pointing in the right direction. It's important to be a light, and not a lifeboat. Life boats go out in the storm and rescue people, and if they're not equipped to do so, they drown. But lighthouses stand firm. They are immovable, they show others the way, guiding carefully. Leave rescuing to The Life Boat whom can walk on water.

Today's Challenge: Be salt and light in the world.

Shalom
