Demigod is a Greek mythological figure whose one parent is a god and another one is a human. Demigod means half-god. I only found out about them during a hot Summer of April, 2012. My Mother was a Social Studies teacher in high school and she started this Greek-related topic after we went home from a picnic in a half-hour away river from home.

"Jim, have you heard of the word 'demigod'?" Mother sounded a bit scared. It was kind of weird to me. We just came in to the living room and our feet were not yet warming the floor.

"Haven't heard that in my class. Why is Father not yet coming inside?" I said, trying to divert Mother's awkward gaze at me.

"Jimuel... listen to me." She sounded very serious and it was very strange to me. "Demigod is a child of a human and a god." I sensed urgency from her voice.

I scowled. I didn't know what she was trying to do. It was an odd thing lecturing me about such lessons. I thought it wasn't worth a significant to talk about.

"Mother, can we just talk about it later? Why don't we help Father get all our stuff from the jeep?"

"There will be no more laters. You are turning thirteen next month." She still sounded serious. It wasn't funny at all to hear her talk like this. It was like I made a mistake and she was going to scold me anytime.

I just looked at her and tried not to say anything. Due to my action, my Mother's face softened and she started to say things in her natural voice. "Jimuel, I know you can't feel them but I can. I need to bring you to a place where you will be safe."

Where I can be safe? I'm safe here at home. Why are you thinking I'm not safe?

"Jimuel you are ---"

A sudden darkness startled us. The daylight was consumed by an instant night. Although we were inside the house and the lights were on, the darkness was reigning. I felt scared. It was like being trapped inside a doorless house. I went closer to my Mother. I thought of Father who was outside and then I felt my knees quaking.

What's happening?

Tik Tik Tik. I heard the sound from the outside. The surrounding was now pitch-black. I held tight to my Mother as she said to me, "Don't be afraid, everything will be okay."

I closed my eyes and never let go of my Mother. Then I heard a terrifying scream outside. I couldn't be wrong, it was Father's voice. I opened my eyes and looked at my Mother. Her hands were praying and she was crying silently.

"Mother? What's happening?" I started to cry. I was scared and I was worried about Father.

Mother looked at me as if she came from a deep thinking. "Come with me."

She almost dragged me away from the living room into her and Father's bedroom. Tik Tik Tik. I could hear the sounds getting louder. It was frightening. I could feel my head enlarging.
