Chapter 8

(Dawns POV)
I woke up to my fathers breathing, his shoulder still hasn't healed. Maybe I can help! I started to lick his shoulder rapidly. Then without meaning to I looked and saw dad awake, but, smiling? I whimpered and he said calmly
"It's ok, thank you" then he nuzzled me, I purred and walked around his head. Then I saw the light, I ran over to the edge of the cliff. I was just about to jump off and take a flight, until someone picked me up by the scruff.
"Dad!"
"Nope, you still can't fly right"
"But thats how I'll learn!"
"Your right, it is" then he chucked me over, I tried flapping up but I was too weak. I was heading into the water when I was picked up once again, by the scruff and from my dad. When he flew up I was given a smirk, so he said
"So wanna go for another flight Dawn?"
"Haha, very funny"
"No really, want a lesson?"
"Yes,yes,yes!" He gave a slight laugh and smile, then he flew me up to the top of the cave. He said
"Go fly to where mum is"
"Ok!" I tried flying to her and I made it! She was still sleeping but I made her get up by laughing and jumping around. She and Jet groaned but that just made me laugh harder, as soon as she was about to get up dad came in and pushed her back down with his paw. Me and Jet gagged until he said
"Sleep me and the kids are going somewhere before we have to go to Berk"
"Ok, but be careful"
"When am I not?" She gave him a death glare and he said
"Ok ok I'm going" me and Jet giggled. Dad flew out and I followed, but Jet wasn't going anywhere. That is until mum pushed him up into the air, he struggled for a few minutes but then got used to the feeling. Me and him faced for a bit until daddy came soaring up and we both stumbled and he laughed. We were having the time of our lives, then he daddy said
"Come on let's have a race at diving!"
"But daddy! You always win!" I say
"Hey it's ok! You can dive down first! Ok?"
"Yay! Come on Jet!"
"Oh come on! Can't I just sleep in?" Jet says
"NO! NOW COME ON YOU LAZY HATCHING!" I scream then dad says
"No fighting! Now I gave you a head start now go!" Then me and Jet dived down at full speed. I was beating him by heaps! Then my dad was next to me, we were neck and neck. I wrapped my wings around my body and started spinning, I was going so fast that dad couldn't keep up! Then he did the same and suddenly his spikes started glowing blue! How? But then he pulled up a bit and I won! I started laughing and jumping again, when my brother and dad got to the ground he pushed me and Jet over with his big paw. We both laughed and I asked
"Why did your spikes turn blue daddy?"
"Because I am the Alpha, and I protect all the dragons"
"Wow! How come you didn't tell us!"
"Because I didn't have to"
"Oh dad, your too WISE!" He laughed and walked of, me and my brother followed under his legs. Then a loud roar came from my mother, it was time to come home! Dad looked at us and threw us up into the air we started flapping and then we were joined by dad, when we got to the cave mum smiled and walked up to us. She nuzzled our heads then went to daddy and said
"It's time"
"Yes it is, oh and apparently I'm too wise"
"Hmm according to who?"
"Dawn"
"Yeah he can act too wise sometimes" she whispered to me I giggled and she walked off. Dad said
"Stay here I'll be back" we nodded and he flew off. Me and Jet wrestled for a bit and when it got a bit violent mum pulled us apart. I went over to the edge of the cliff where me and dad hang out, I waited for a while until I heard a loud roar. Dad flew down next to me and said
"What's wrong baby girl?"
"Nothing I was just waiting"
"You look a bit sad"
"Nah I'm just wondering what'll be like on Berk"
"Oh I assure you it will be wonderful!"
"Ok daddy!"
"Good you've got your smile on, now let's go pick up mum and Jet"
"Ok" we lifted of into the air and hurried mum and Jet out, the dragons were preparing to launch and so were we. Dad checked our wings and we were all good, we left off and flew for a while, I started getting tired and I was about to fall but dad caught me just in time. Then we were flying happily until a huge scauldron came out of the water and grabbed Jet. I screamed and dad threw me onto mum, he dove down and had a brawl with the scauldron. He fought and fought but Jet dropped into the water and was gone. He was gone. Gone. Dad got out of the fight as soon as he could and dove into the water. He stayed there for 2 minutes until he finally emerged from the water, breathless. Me and mum both knew he was gone, I started crying and so did mum, dad came next to us and said
"I'm sorry, I tried"
"It's ok it wasn't your fault" mum said
"Shhh it's ok it's ok" he said to me, then he grabbed me and cuddled me. He kept me warm the whole way to Berk and when we got there he set me down and said
"Shh it's ok, your ok" and I nuzzled up next to him. That was the last time I saw my little brother.
