Emil drove me home without his guard detail.
"You didn't have to do this" I said a little tired.
"I think after what happened today it's necessary until we can get you a guard of your own" he said.
"I can't believe all of this is happening, I never thought my life would turn out like this" I said looking out the window and watching the world pass us by.
My own father had helped the Brotherhood set me up to find our location, Johannes hadn't told me what he planned to do with the bodies but I hoped he returned them to the Brotherhood, because at this point we weren't ready to take them on.
"Well you had to get out from under your father, I could see how he was trying use you" he said as he pulled into my apartment building.
"I didn't see it because he always told me that what he was doing was because he always said that he believed in me, now I see it was a ploy and I was just a pawn. That's not what's happening here, is it?" I asked looking at him.
"No I can promise you that we know how much potential you have and we can't wait to see what this will become, this time you will be a leader in this organization and will never take orders from anyone" he said.
Then he accompanied me up to my apartment even though I didn't think it was necessary.
"So do you have anyone special?" I asked as we waited for the elevator.
In the short amount of time I've known Emil I never saw him in any kind of intimate situation with any woman, and he had some beautiful members of his Brotherhood.
"You mean have I found my mate? No I haven't, but I haven't had much time outside of my Brotherhood" he said.
"So you guys don't do the whole deranged marriage thing over there" I said joking a bit.
"No we haven't done arranged marriages since probably the early nineteen hundreds" he said.
Then I got a call from my father, I hadn't had a chance to change my number yet and I didn't know if I should take his call or not, so I ignored it this time.
"Thanks for giving me a ride home" I said at my door.
"See you tomorrow Avery" he said as he headed back to the elevator.
I didn't know anything about either of them and so now I was wondering if I could trust them, I might've been a little too hasty in leaving the Brotherhood to join them to build this new organization.
My father called again as I plopped down on the couch.
"What do you want dad? You're lucky I just got home I was about to change my number" I said.
"Avery your brother is dead" he said a little broken sounding.
"You're lying" I said sitting up.
"I would never lie about this, Dieter and Marcus came with Knights and blamed me for the mission failure and I begged them to kill me but one of their damned Knights killed Devon, his funeral is tomorrow" he said.
"I want to see him, I don't trust you" I said.
He was quiet for the longest time, then he finally said.
"Then you better get here quick, funeral preparations have already begun" he said before hanging up.
I called Emil and Johannes and told them what happened, they said they'd come with me.
It was a good thing Emil wasn't too far from me, so all he had to do was flip around and come back and get me as Johannes made the arrangements to get to Washington State.
