"Breakfast!" I heard Jen call from inside.

"Oh gosh, I hope she didn't cook." I muttered, earning a chuckle from Dannie. We slipped on our sneakers and hurried out into the sprinkling rain to the back door.

Inside it was very warm. I could smell cinnamon right away. We made our way to the kitchen and sat in the spinning chairs in front of the island counters

"You know I never noticed this yesterday, but your kitchen looks like an old diner." Dannie said. "With the long counter and these cool spinning seats."

She spun herself around in the chair a couple of times. I shook my head and laughed.

"Yeah, then you see the fancy glass dining table and your thoughts of 'Old Diner' kind of just leave your mind." I said.

"Yeah, no kidding." Dannie replied, still spinning herself around. Then Jen walked in and dropped a box of cinnamon rolls in front of us.

"Your dad had me go get them for you." She said, rolling her eyes. "As if you can't go get your own food." She muttered her last sentence to herself. Dannie rolled her eyes.

"Are you gonna have any?" She asked her.

"Are you kidding?" Jen said. "I can't smear this lipstick with that sugary garbage."

Dannie raised her eyebrows and rolled her eyes, continuing to spin.

"Stop that!" Jen yelled. "It's making me dizzy!" Then she stomped out of the room, her shiny, black heels clicking on the white and black checkered tile with each step.

Dannie, who had stopped spinning, was now holding back laughter.

"She's such a drama queen!" She whispered through giggles. I laughed too, opening the cinnamon roll box and taking out two, handing one to Dannie, and taking a bite of my own.

"Hey, we should go pick up Hale and Zaydon when we finish and head to the mall." Dannie suggested, licking the icing off her cinnamon roll.

"That sounds cool." I agreed. "Do you think Zaydon will be in a better mood?"

"Most likely. He was probably just having problems with something personal in his life." Dannie replied.

"Oh." I replied. It was all I could think of to say, aside from the other thoughts I was thinking about Zaydon. I really wanted to know about his real parents, but I knew it wasn't my business and bringing it up to him could make things worse and make him hate me.

Once we finished eating, I ran upstairs to take a shower. I changed into a black t-shirt and faded blue jeans. After blow drying my hair until it was dry and soft, I decided to leave it down so most of the blond would show and keep the pink and blue partly hidden. I was just in the middle of brushing it when someone knocked on the door.

"Yeah?" I called, setting down the brush and sitting on the floor to slip my sneakers

"It's me." Dannie called from the other side.

"Come on in." I said. Dannie opened the door and peeked her head in.

"Oh good, you didn't choose heels." Dannie said. "We're going hiking."

"But it's raining." I replied as I tied up the laces.

"Yeah, but it'll still be fun." Dannie said. "The ground will be mostly flat anyway, we shouldn't be going uphill or downhill much as far as I know." She walked in the rest of the way and silently closed the door behind her. I noticed her hair was now straight and she was wearing black pants with tears in the knees, but instead of seeing skin there was red cloth that looked really soft. Her shirt was black, like mine, but had a picture of two stick people holding hands with a heart between their heads.

"Are Hale and Zaydon coming?" I asked her.

"Yep. I called them when I was in the bathroom downstairs." Dannie replied.

"Great, can't wait." I said. I stood up and followed Dannie downstairs. I grabbed my black sweater and zipped it up part of the way. Dannie followed me outside to her car and we headed off to Zaydon's house.
