Chapter 8

School on Monday for Ashton was not a great day.

Having English up first on Monday isn't great.

At lunch Michael had detention and Calum was at football (Soccer) practice and Ed was nowhere to be found so Ashton was sat at their table being the third wheel as he ate his sandwich while Kat and Luke held their own conversation.

The short merman sighed as Kat fed Luke some hot chips and while Luke didn't look so enthused about it, he didn't say anything.

The only time the other two talked to them was when Kat asked Ashton for the time.

That's why Ashton was very happy to be going to the aquarium after school. He loved it their and now understands why his dad was so happy about the new job.

The animals loved him back just as much and they were better conversation starters than Ashton's friends.

Calum was walking with him and Michael was too but he was on his phone for most of the walk and Ashton wasn't really in a talkative mood at that moment so the walk was silent.

Ashton was kind of pissed off to be honest. His brother was now ditching him at lunch times to go practice, Michael is hardly ever at the table because he either has catch up work to do, or he's a little shît in class and gets detention, and Luke is too busy shoving his tongue down his girlfrie-

"Ashton."

Ashton realized that he'd stopped walking and looked up, seeing Calum right in front of him with his hands on Ashton's shoulders.

"Hm?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows. Calum laughed softly, tapping his brother's cheek twice. "You alright there mate? You just stopped walking." Ashton frowned, looking down at his shoes. "Yeah."

"Luke's been calling out for you, you just zoned out." Calum said and Ashton looked around, seeing Luke standing over with Michael who was waiting for Calum.

"Oh..."

"Yeah, let's go, you don't wanna be late on your official first day." Calum teased.

Ashton chuckled lightly and hit Calum's arm before walking ahead of him and over to Luke, continuing his journey to the aquarium but with Luke by his side.

"You wanted me?" The shorter boy asked, sighing. "Yeah, wanted to know if you were alright, you didn't seem like yourself today." Luke said, shoving his hands inside his pockets.

Ashton scoffed, "How would you know? You hardly even acknowledged my presence throughout the whole day."

"Excuse me?"

Ashton sighed deeply, shaking his head. "It's nothing, I'm sorry."

It was Luke's turn to shake his head. "No, it's not nothing. What's up?" He asked, looking down at Ashton as they walked.

Ashton shrugged. "I was so lonely today. Calum ditched me. Michael wasn't there. I don't even know Ed that well but it would've been nice to have someone to talk to at least at lunch time." He ranted.

"I was there." Luke said, furrowing his eyebrows when Ashton let out a laugh and then fixed his glasses. "Yeah, you were but you were too busy smooching and being fed by your girlfriend to even notice that I left the table." He snapped.
