Chapter Eight
Trethan and I arrived at my house about two hours later from when we had left, earlier this morning.
Trethan carries the bags of clothes into the sun porch where he had stayed last night.
I walk into the kitchen and sit myself at the bar. I rested my head on my hands as I begin to feel a headache being born inside my clouded mind.
“Are you okay Nellie?” Trethan asks, as he enters the kitchen.
I bring myself to look up at him. “Just a headache.”
He nods, he opened his mouth to say something but then closed it.
“Are you really going to take me to my dad?” I ask, putting my head back in my hands.
Trethan is quiet for a moment. “That is why I am here, so yes.” he says, confidently.
I swallow hard. “But what if I don’t want to go, what if I don’t want become more of a siren than I already am.” I spit out.
Trethan slides into the seat across from me. “Nellieana, you’re killing yourself living on land, your body cannot take this much living as a human, you need balance.” Trethan says, in a gently voice.
My stomach felt like it was tightening as he spoke.
“I am not ready.” I say, finally meeting my eyes to his diamond ones.
He looked worried, worried for me.
“We have time.” he says, softly as he rests his hand on my back, sending chills rushing down my spine.
I look at him, I was holding down my tears as my throat began to tighten.
“Trethan my birthday is in three days.” I says hopelessly, as my eyes begin to sting.
Trethan looked away, I watched his Adam’s apple move up and down as he swallowed hard. “I know, I know.” Trethan finally says, in a hoarse voice.
Even I could tell Trethan was in much self conflict as I was.
I quickly wipe my damp eyes and clear my throat.
“My friend is having a small party tonight, would you like to come with me?” I ask, trying to change the fearful topic.
He hesitates. “If my being there isn’t a burden, then I would like that.” he answers, giving my a small smile.
“You aren’t a burden. But remember what I said about speaking like a teenage human boy.” I say sarcastically, rolling my eyes.
He chuckles.
“I forgot, I am sorry, but I think I learned some things, I was trying to listen to people’s conversations on the beach today.”
I nod, cracking a bigger smile. “let’s here it.”
He pushes out a breath then smiles “Dude, this girl hadda bangin bod… that was clutch man, nah that’s weak bro.”
I raise my eyebrows, impressed. “Wow, not bad at all.” I say, laughing slightly.
He looked embarrassed. “I still do not understand why you all talk so strange.”
I shrug. “I guess that’s what land does to you.” I say, smirking.
He shakes his head and lets out an easy laugh.
I couldn’t help but stare at his perfect teeth as they became more visible each time he laughed.
