As the weeks went by, Sarah's belly got noticeably bigger. She felt the baby's movements more easily and the kicks were getting stronger. She started talking to the baby, too, but only when she was by herself.

Grant accompanied her to her ultrasound appointment. She had decided to find out the sex of the baby. She figured it would be more practical and she was nothing if not a practical person.

The baby was much bigger now. Sarah could easily identify the baby's arms and legs. The technologist said that everything was developing just fine. Grant seemed mesmerized by the images on the monitor.

"You would like to know the gender, correct?" the tech asked.

"Yes, please," Sarah responded excitedly.

"It looks like you are carrying a daughter," the tech finally said as she moved the wand over Sarah's stomach.

"A girl? That's awesome!" Grant exclaimed.

"I'm so excited!" Sarah replied. Now she could call the baby "she" instead of "it." She couldn't wait to see the baby for real.

"Congratulations, Mom," Grant said, kissing her cheek. His eyes were bright with emotion as he smiled at her.

After the appointment, Grant took her out for lunch to celebrate. Sarah was so excited. She was having a girl and Grant had kissed her! She was so happy.

"I can't believe I still have to wait four months for the baby to come," Sarah said, after they ordered some lunch.

"I know. It's hard to be patient after seeing the baby on the screen," Grant replied.

"At least I know what colour of things to buy," Sarah said. "I guess it's time to start thinking about the nursery."

"It's still early yet," Grant responded. "You've got plenty of time."

"I know, but I like to be prepared," Sarah said, still excited.

Grant laughed.

"You're cute when you're excited," he remarked.

She blushed, not realizing how pretty it made her look.

"I'm sorry," she said, smiling. "I can't help it. I hope you don't mind having a niece rather than a nephew."

"Are you kidding? I'll love it. I get to spoil her rotten and there's nothing you can do about it."

Sarah laughed.

"She'll probably have you wrapped around her little finger."

"Probably. I won't mind."

Grant seemed just as excited as Sarah was.

They were enjoying their lunch together when Sarah brought up the fact that Greg should probably be told about the baby being a girl.

"I'll text him later," Grant replied gruffly. Sarah could tell that he still wasn't pleased with his brother.

"Did you two resolve your argument about me?" Sarah asked boldly.

"No. All I succeeded in doing was alienating Greg even further."

"Is that why he hasn't called me?" she asked quietly.

"Probably," he answered. "Don't take it personally. It has nothing to do with you. Greg just needs to grow up and he doesn't seem to want to do that right now."

"Do you think he will when the baby comes?" Sarah asked.

"Honestly? I don't know," Grant answered. "But that's why I'm here and I'm not planning on going anywhere."
