She still hasn't woken. It's been two weeks since the incident. Everyday I have four guards watching; two inside and two outside, but only if I'm not in there. Usually I'm always there until I get my annual phone call from the council leader. Everyday he updates me on the attack situation. Still no leads have been found. It's a big problem for our whole community because attacking a Luna is punishable to death. Whoever did it had to die and we don't know who it was.
I watch Argon hover over Lena as he sees if Thrae's blood is still fighting in her. He believes that's why she hasn't woken. Thrae hasn't come to see her since that first night.
"Sir?"
"Yes Argon."
"Miss Lena should wake by tonight. Would you wish to move her to your quarters?" he asks. I look at her and see how peaceful she looks.
"Yes. Santo, Gartin come here please." the two walk into the infirmary. "I want you two to watch her at all times. No one should come into contact with the Luna without my permission or her. Understood?" They both nod and I lift up Lena to carry her to my room. As we walk through the main hall others make way for us. Splitting like the Red Sea. I hear countless whispers of people saying "Luna" and "That's her". Beta started walking up to us and Santo stopped her immediately.
"Sorry Beta. No one is to come near the Luna without permission," he informs her. She stares past him at me and I square my shoulders.
"Later Beta. Whatever it is it can wait."
"Yes... sir," she whispers. She clears out of the way and we quickly get Lena to my room without any other incidents. I lay her upon my bed that is unmade. I cover her and turn to the men at the doorway.
"Come in and close the door." They do as I say and stand in my room awkwardly. No one has been in here besides me and Argon. "Can I trust you two to keep her safe upon my request?" Santo and Gartin stand taller and prouder.
"Yes Alpha. You can trust us," Gartin says to me. Santo nods in agreement.
"Good. This is a tough decision for me but I need it to happen." I get right in front of them, looking them both square in the eyes. "You two are my new second and third in command. Technically I'm making you both Betas but if anyone asks you are just bodyguards for my Luna, understood?" They share a look then look at me confused.
"But what about Beta?" Santo asks.
"We are going to let her think she is still the Beta. Do not take any orders from her, only me. There is something going on with her that I must get to the bottom of. Do nothing that woman says. Only what you hear from my mouth. Don't tell her anything. Nothing."
"You think she had something to do with Miss Lena?" Gartin asks. I nod and he growls. Their loyalty calms my nerves slightly. I place a hand on both of their shoulders.
"You two are only some of the people I can trust right now. Please do not break it."
"Yes sir," they say. I nod and turn towards my bed. We three stare at her laying there peacefully.
"Sir?"
"Yes," I whisper.
"Are you going to marry her?" I close my eyes for a second then focus on mine and Lena's future.
"One day. I just don't know when in the foreseeable future." We're silent for a few seconds. I watch Lena stir then she sighs. "She is beautiful."
"Yes sir. You are a very lucky man." I nod and step to the foot of the bed. A lucky man indeed. I turn towards the two and smile.
"We can discuss any specifics for your new jobs later alright? Come here tomorrow at noon please. If I need one of you I'll send for you. Goodnight."
"Goodnight sir," they say and leave. I go over to my bed side bookshelf and pull off a book. I grab my reading glasses and sit beside Lena on the bed. I open it and start reading the pages as I try passing time.
An hour passes and Lena begins stirring again. She rolls over and lays her head on my thigh. I set my book down and move a strand of hair from her face.
"Lena?" I whisper. She sighs and grips onto my jeans with her hand. "Lena are you awake?"
"How long have I been asleep?" her voice startles me. I place a hand on her back and rub it gently.
"Two weeks on and off. Are you hungry? Thirsty?" she nods and I start to get up. I help her off the bed slowly then hold her hands as she stands for the first in weeks.
"I'm okay," she whispers. She takes a step forewords and almost falls. I catch her and she grips on my arms. "Okay maybe not." Lena laughs and looks up into my eyes.
"You must have many questions," I say touching her cheek. Lena closes her eyes and just feels my touch. "All of which I will answer once you are fed. Come on." Lena wraps her arms around me as I help her walk. We sneak our way to the kitchen area and I help her sit on a stool at the counter.
"Alpha-"
"My name is Cammirin. That is what you call me now. You don't need to say my title anymore," I inform her. She grins at me and blushes.
"Cammirin what does a Luna do?" she asks. I open one of the refrigerators and pull out a steak. I go to another one and pull out some onions and a clove of garlic.
"A Luna is just the female version of an Alpha. The pack must do anything she says. Some wolf packs have made it so the Luna is the one who makes all decisions. She is the Alpha. They praise her as a queen."
"Is this one of them?" I place her steak on the grill pan and turn it on. It immediately begins cooking and I chop up the onion and garlic for seasoning.
"Not unless you don't want it to be. If you don't want to make decisions it's up to you. But you can always state you opinion. I will not rob you of that." She nods and processes her next question. I throw the vegetables in the pan and go to a cabinet.
"Who attacked me?" she asks. I freeze with the steak sauce in my hand.
"I don't know," I whisper. I turn around and look her in the eyes. She looks like she wants to say something but doesn't. "Just say what it is."
"Do you have an idea who you think did it?" I shake my head. I continue cooking her meal in silence for a couple seconds. Then I turn the heat down and walk over to her. I grab Lena's hand in my and hold them.
"I don't know who did this awful thing to you but I have an idea who was behind it. I swear that I will protect you with my life as you are my Luna, my queen." She nods, speechless by what I said. I finish her food and plate it. I grab her a drink and silver wear. Before she takes a bite she looks at me.
"Do I have to change into a wolf?" I smile at her.
"No. You don't have to do anything you don't want to." Lena eats her food and sighs. Thrae comes into the kitchen and I wave him over. He slowly makes his way over to us and stops a few feet away.
"Miss Lena."
"Hello Thrae. Was you hurt?" he shakes his head. Lena nods and he looks at her with hurt in his eyes.
"Alpha, Miss Lena I have comes to tell you that I will not interfere with your mating. I also hope you well for as long as we all shall live."
"Thank you Thrae," I say. The poor boy. He truly cared about her. It's sad to see him in such pain.
"Thrae you will always be someone special to me. I will never forget your loyalty or trust." He nods and bows to us before leaving the room.
"You are a beautiful young woman Lena." She blushes again and finishes her food.
