I'm a father. Or rather I'm going to be one. Which means more security for Lena and the baby. It also means that we either have to put off the wedding or changing Lena. Argon walks into my office with a warm smile on his grave face.
"Congratulations, Alpha Cammirin." I nod my head in acknowledgment. "Do you and Lena plan on changing now or after the baby?" My head snaps up at his question.
"Can I now? It won't hurt my child?"
"No, sir. It won't hurt your child. If you are worried about complications then in sure the council won't mind if you and miss Lena wait." Santo runs into my office panicked.
"Alpha, it's Lena. She woke up screaming and we can't get her to stop." I jump over my desk, spewing important papers around my office too. I sprint up the two flights of stairs until I reach our bedroom. I hear her screams of terror and my heart stops. Gartin backs away from her and I take his place.
"Lena, Lena baby is me. I'm here. It's Cammirin." She stops and stares at me. Her wide blue orbs are filled with fear and I hear her heart pounding. Her breathing is staggered and quick. I pull her against me and hold her. "Shh, shh is alright. I'm here now."
"I will go fix up a drink for you, miss Lena," I hear Argon say.
"No one was in here right? Just you two?" I ask Santo and Gartin. They nod and look at each other. My body relaxes. "It was just a night terror then," I sigh. "Santo will you go fetch me an ice pack from the freezer, please?"
"Yes sir." He leaves and I kiss Lena on her temple.
"It was horrible Cam. Just horrible. I-i-i," she starts crying and presses her face to my shoulder. Santo walks in with the ice pack wrapped in a white hand towel. I place it on the back of Lena's neck and she flinches. She soon relaxes and lazily wraps her arms around my waist.
"Will you two get the manila folders on my desk and bring them here. I'm just going to turn in for the day. Then you guys can go do whatever, but keep your ears on. Just in case something happens." The two loyal guards and betas nod their heads in sequence before leaving. I lay my Luna down and cover her up.
"Please don't leave me Cammirin." I lean down and press my lips to her cheek.
"I'm not going anywhere. Just changing my clothes." The two large men walk in with my folders and I point towards my dresser. They place them in two tall stacks before leaving the room. I hear the door open then muffled voices. It must be Argon. A few minutes later the elderly man enters the room. He goes to Lena's bedside and crouches.
"My queen, I have you a tea that will help you sleep." I pull my shirt over my head and replace my jeans for sweat pants. "I also brought you a herb compress for your belly. This mixture of herbs is a secret amongst our kind. It ensures pregnancy goes smoothly and your baby stays strong."
"Thank you Argon. You have done so much for me since I arrived." I see him smile lightly at her and mumble a few words to himself.
"In another four weeks time I will call the one who sees, so you can know what your baby is, if you wish."
"No, that's alright. I have a strong feeling it is a boy anyways." My heart beats a little bit faster. A son. Argon looks at me and grins.
"Very well, my queen. If you change your mind you know where to find me. Ooh, for the compress use it whenever you aren't doing anything active, but not when your sleeping. It stains linens." Lena giggles and nods her head. Argon stands and expresses his farewell as he leaves. I climb into bed and wrap my arms around my Luna.
"I can't believe I'm a father." I whisper in her ear. She shivers and looks at me.
"I'm honestly surprised is taken this long. We do it every night." I laugh and touch my head to hers.
"Are you serious, you think it's a boy?" I ask, curious.
"Yes. My aunt when she was pregnant with my cousin Stephan had nightmares all the time. She woke up screaming and crying every time for the first three months." I cringe at the though of my love having nightmares for another month.
"I hope you don't have nightmares for that long. I don't enjoy seeing you that way. It's frightening." A content sigh escapes her and she nods.
"I don't enjoy having them really," her voice is soft and I feel the pain in her words.
"I wonder why I didn't feel you having the dream. Usually I feel you when you're restless." Lena shrugs in my arms.
"I don't know. My terror was weird though. It was just a couple memories of mine playing over and over." I remain quiet so she can go at her own pace in telling me her dream. "The first memory was when I was eleven and my parents just decided they didn't want a kid anymore. Then they put me in foster care." I pace a hand on her stomach and kiss her forehead. "That played over about fifty times, but no matter how hard I tried waking up, I couldn't. It was like my mind was paralyzed. Then the next one that played was when I was attacked and Thrae brought me to the infirmary and Argon said I was going to die if my mate wasn't found. I could hear your panic so clear. That fear of losing someone in your pack."
"That fear of losing you," I say for her. She nods and I feel a few tears fall on my arm.
"I swear if I hadn't heard that voice tell me you was my mate. I don't know what I would've done. Now that I have you Cam, I don't want to ever be without you."
"Argon says I can change you while your pregnant, that it wouldn't hurt our child."
"I feel like there's a but," she whispers against my chest.
"But I'm afraid of any complications it could cause."
"Cam I want you to look at me." I do and she places her small hands on my cheeks. Her touch causes a fire to ignite in me. "Nothing will happen. If you think, for the sake of our pack, I should be changed now then do it."
"My family and it's safety comes before this pack. Always." She nods and presses her plump pink lips against my thin ones. I couldn't be luckier having her in my life right now.
