Fade to Sapphire (Jerza fanfic)

Chapter 1

I tightened my fists and forced myself to get back up. I couldn't give up now. I had to continue. My legs felt weak and my entire body was trembling, I ended up falling on the ground again.

'Come on Erza...you can't stop here! Get up! What would Natsu do? '

I pushed myself up using my hands once again, and I managed to stand on my feet with difficulty. I tightened the grip of my sword, trying to come up with a way to deal with this. Damn, how did I even get to this point?

'Natsu...what would you say? '

At that moment, I heard Natsu's scream coming from some distance, echoing loudly as I realized what he said:

"Because we're Fairy Tail!"

I took a deep breath and smiled warmly. Of course. That's what Natsu would say, anyway.

'You'd better do this...for your comrades. For Fairy Tail! '

I accelerated and attempted a last attack against my opponent. I knew I was going to fail...but nothing was going to stop me.

"It's meaningless", he said and grinned. Before my attack even reached close to him, a big wave kicked me back with so much force, that I scuffed all the way to the edge of the cliff. I glanced behind me. Just a little more and I would have fallen down, in the hands of the wild sea, hitting forcefully on the rocks.

I didn't realize I spaced out, until I turned back around to see him standing over me, with his magic pointed towards me. I took a quick look around for my sword; it ended up far away from me, because of the blast. I was unarmed. My magic had hit rock bottom, I could not equip.

"It's over. Goodbye forever, Erza Scarlet...Titania." My eyes widened as I watched him charge his attack, and a warm tear rolled on my cheek, as I glared at his evil grin spread across his face. This was actually the end.

"Natsu...Lucy...Gray...everyone...I'm sorry." My voice came out shaky and weak, so faint that I could barely hear it myself.

"Thank you for everything..." The wind blew hard, taking away my red hair from my face, along with the tears that wouldn't stop flowing.

"Je-"

The blast was deafening. I felt my bones hurting so much as his magic pushed me off the edge, and I started falling down the cliff. It felt like an eternity, during which I recalled every valuable moment in my life. I remembered my time in Fairy Tail, all the missions I went on, how I gained myself a reputation as one of the guild's strongest wizards, everyone I met, everyone I fought, everyone I loved.

It was the last second when I smiled in the thought of those moments, before I crashed hard on the rocks, watching everything go blank with a loud sound that echoed in my ears.
