When the train came to a stop, it screeched loudly, waking me up.
"We're here, Hermione." Ron smiled, "Would you like help with your things?"I have a big stretch before jumping up from my seat. "Yes, please. Once everything is unloaded I can use a spell."
Harry chuckled to himself.
"What's that, Harry?" I asked him."Wingardium leviosa?" He answered.
I faintly smiled back, "Yes."
Ron looked awfully confused at this point. That's when I remembered that he wasn't there that night Harry confessed his liking for me.
"I'll tell you later." I whispered in his ear as we began walking out.Ron struggled to get my things off the train, but he refused help, which made it even funnier.
When everything was finally off, I was about to wave my wand when Harry got to it first.
"Wingardium leviosa."My luggage then floated up as they did earlier that morning and carried themselves to our carriage.
"That's funny..." I started to say."What's funny?" Harry asked me.
I realized I had spoken out loud, "Oh..well there's something pulling the carriages. That hasn't been there before."
Ron looked and became wide eyed, "Is this what you saw, Harry?" He asked him. "When you claimed there was something pulling the carriages that one year?"
Harry nodded, "They're only visible to those who've seen death."
My heart dropped at the statement. We all have seen death, from the battle, here on these grounds.
"Woah!!" A first year student exclaimed, "It's pulling itself!"
My heart broke into pieces when I turned to see Louis just as confused as we were. He hobbled towards us and told me to come down to him. When I did he whispered in my ear, "What is that thing? Pulling the carriage?"
Harry and I caught each other's eyes. Sadness washed over Harry's face as he looked to Louis, "They're Thestrals."
"What's that?" Louis asked.
Harry bent down to him, "The only people who can see them are those who...who've seen death."
"Oh." Louis replied, his smile fading. "Can you see them?" He asked me.
"I can." I told him, "As does Ron."
"You saw a lot of people die that day, didn't you?" He asked again.
We stayed silent, which gave him his answer.
"My dad died when I was seven." He explained to us, "He was protecting something...something my mom wouldn't tell me, but he got to him. Voldemort."It sounded weird coming from the little boy's mouth. Since he's no longer around, more and more people have started calling him by his actual name. Some, however, still refuse to say it. I don't blame them.
"I'm so sorry to hear that." Ron told Louis.
"It's alright." He smiled, "Can I ride with you?" He asked us.
"Of course you can." Harry replied.
---
"Oh! Mr. Potter! Miss Granger! Ohhh and Mr. Weasley!" Professor Mcgonagall said as we walked through the doors to the school."Professor." Harry smiled, "It's very nice to see you."
"Come here, boy!" She laughed and embraced him in a warming hug.
"Miss Granger, you look lovely." She told me, hugging me.
"And Ronald, you're so grow up. You three come and follow me."The three of us followed Professor Mcgonagall and our luggage followed behind us. As we walked through Hogwarts we got many stares. Lots of shouting too.
"HARRY POTTER! ITS GOOD TO SEE YOU!" Sir Nicholas practically screamed. When we arrived at an unfamiliar wall, Professor Mcgonagall turned to us. "The password is...Wattlebird."
Suddenly the wall began to cave in, rumbling. A passageway appeared and we walked up the steps. The room was actually really large. It looked like the Gryffindor common room, but with three bedrooms leading into the middle of the room.
"This is where you'll be saying. I had it specially made for the three of you." Professor Mcgonagall told us, "I hope you'll enjoy yourselves here.""It's perfect." Ron told her.
"Well, I'll let you unpack. You may join us in the Great Hall if you wish." She said, then left the room.
As soon as she left, Ron took his things, "I call the middle room!"
"Well I guess I'll take the room on the left." I announced, grabbing my luggage.
"Here, let me help you." Harry offered, grabbing some bags.
We lifted the heavy load onto my bed and breathed out heavily.
"You brought your whole life with you!" Harry teased."I never know what to wear." I explained, my cheeks growing warm.
"No need to be embarrassed." Harry laughed, "Ron brought more than you did."
"This is true." I nodded, giggling.
The two of us stared at each other for quite some time. I half expected him to run over and kiss me. I wanted him to hold me tight and tell me how much he loved me and how sorry he was. I wanted everything to be back the way it was. But I knew that wouldn't happen and it wasn't good for me either.
"Are you going to the Great Hall?" I asked, breaking our trance."I think I just might." Harry replied, "Are you?"
I shook my head, "I think I'm going to chill out here."
Ron came into my room and looked between us. "So are you two coming?"
"I'm staying. I'm not really all that hungry." I stated.
Ron frowned a bit, "Alright. Come on Harry."
Both Harry and Ron left, leaving me sitting on my bed. I had enough time with Harry for the day. Tomorrow will be better.
I laid on my bed, thinking to myself, not realizing how tired I was, until I fell asleep.
---
"Hermione?"I shifted in bed and groaned, "What."
"I brought you dinner." Harry's voice said in the dark.
"Oh. Okay."
I sat up and waited for him.
The days leading up to today had me anxious as hell. I had barely gotten much sleep this past week."Here, I just grabbed a bunch of things." He said, placing the tray in bed with me.
"Thank you, Harry." I smiled.
"It's never a problem." He replied, "I'm headed to bed. Goodnight, Mione."
"Goodnight, Harry." I told him, looking at his figure in the dark.
Then he did the unexpected. He came closer to me. He was so close I could feel his breath. For a second I thought he was going to kiss me, until he pulled away and walked out of my room, shutting the door behind him.
