The morning of the first Quidditch game of the year was blustery and cold, but otherwise a pleasant one. Ron and Harry were ecstatic to say the least. Ginny was excited, but it seemed like she was trying not to show it. I, on the other hand, was preparing for an hour or more of boredom, having never taken to Quidditch the way my housemates had. My bag was stuffed with books, but I knew I would be forced to watch anyways. Lavender and Parvati were sitting only a little ways away from me, squealing excitedly over the upcoming Ravenclaw/Griffindor match. Most of the time, it was them who reprimanded me for not watching.
"Ready for the game, Harry?" Ginny asked. The sat side-by-side, Harry's arm around her shoulders. Ginny would be playing chaser, Ron keeper, and of course Harry would be seeker.
"Of course. Our Quidditch team this year is amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if we one within five minutes, the way you, Ron, and Demelza have been playing." He replied proudly. Ron gave a sickly sort of grin from his other side. Apparently, helping to save the Wizarding world when you were just seventeen did not get rid of nerves over Quidditch, of all things.
"The way the Firebolt 2 flies, you'll have the snitch in minutes." Ginny said, referring to Harry's new top-of-the-line racing broom. She had one too, of course- the whole team did- but from the way she said it, you'd have thought it was only Harry. I smiled, slathering some marmalade over my toast.
"Ron!" A female voice called, "Good luck today!"
It was Parvati. She waved to Ron as she followed a somewhat angry-looking Lavender out of the Great Hall. Ron was watching her with great interest. I coughed deliberately, and he seemed to break out of his trance. His ears went red as he looked down at his porridge with great interest. I rolled my eyes and went back to my toast. Soon it was time for the three to go down to the pitch, and, after assuring them that I would be there, they left me to finish reading my book.
The sun hurt my eyes as I made my way up the stands. I sat at the top, next to Parvati, which I thought a bit unwise, but it couldn't be helped. The stadium slowly filled up with teachers and students alike, and I watched the two teams make there way onto the feild: scarlet-robed Griffindors led by Harry, sky blue-robed Ravenclaws led by Terry Boot. Madam Hooch blew her whistle, and both teams kicked off as the snitch, bludgers, and quaffle were released.
"And it's Ginny Weasley in possession!" Cheered Seamus into the magical megaphone (he would be commentator), "Streaking up the feild, c'mon, Ginny-!" But it wouldn't be. Terry had stolen. "Now it's Boot in possession, heading toward the goal- save, Ron!" An enormous tumult of applause exploded from the Ravenclaws, and a groan from the Griffindors- Ron had made a wild grab and then missed, the ball flying past his shoulder and through the middle goal.
It was one of the worst Quidditch games of our lives. Though the Griffindors' brooms were far superior to the Ravenclaws', the Ravenclaws made up for it with sheer will. Within a quarter hour, Ravenclaw was up by forty points. I watched as Demelza Robins zoomed off toward the Ravenclaw goal, then get hit by a bludger. I sighed in defeat, then;
"Ooooooooh!" Squealed Parvati and Lavender in unison. My head shot up to see Harry streaking to the ground in a near-vertical dive. Right on his heels- or in this case, tail twigs- was Michael Corner. Surprisingly, he was gaining, but then Harry put on a burst of speed and left him in the dust. He pulled out of his dive, hand clasping something small and golden, fist raised into the air in triumph as the stadium exploded. The Grifffindors, including me, raced onto the field and hugged him in congratulations, as the Ravenclaws trudged, disappointed and put-out, off the pitch.
In the Griffindor common room, a raging party was held, aided by Dennis Creevey. Food and drinks were brought from the kitchen, including firewiskey, much to my dismay. I knew I couldn't handle being drunk. I turned into a crazy, hormonal pile of sweat and tangled limbs after about two drinks. Mostly, I hung out around Harry and Ginny. Ron had seemingly disappeared, though I was actually quite happy for that. I still loved him, but... it was more in the brother-sister way, the way I loved Harry. Even so, I wasn't about to break it off with him. He was a good friend and a good boyfriend, as well, but I just wasn't sure if it was right.
