Living With Boys

chapter 1 - new start

I decided to go to Amelia's place first. The apartment room can wait but I wanted to talk to Amelia. I remembered when we first met, our parents arranged a play day for us and thats when we started to rely on each other. We would have sleepovers and help each other. People thought it was weird that I was hanging out with someone that was way older. Even though Amelia was 10 and I was 5, we still got along pretty well. Its weird but she taught me about pretty much everything. About boys, school, and how important friendship is. She's my person and someone I don't want to lose. 

I parked the car and quickly made my way to the front door. Amelia had this place for a long time but she's cleaning everything up and moving into the apartment complex that Oscar mentioned. I knocked the door and I see Amelia. She opens the door and smiles.

"Hey Vanessa, what brings you here?"

"Hey Amelia, I need to talk to you about something..."

Amelia hands me a cup of water and she seats next to me. We were in the kitchen and the house looks pretty empty but with a touch of packed boxes. Amelia is so beautiful, I thought. With her long, wavy brown hair and pale skin. I remember every guy in high school wanted to be with her but Amelia and Oscar started dating each other ever since middle school.

"I heard from Oscar that you wanted to move into the apartment complex." Amelia speaks and sets the cup of water on the table.

"Yes....I wanted to get away from Miracle and Luke..." I mumbled and Amelia nods. 

"I understand Vanessa but did you forget that you were supposed to give a speech at the wedding?" Amelia says but with caution. My head started to hurt and I couldn't believe myself. I was so worried about myself that I forgot to give a speech!

"Vanessa, I got is covered and I'm glad you left. You needed time away from the situation. I know that you wanted to support Miracle and Luke but you shouldn't hurt yourself." Amelia reassured and I started to nod.

"Amelia....Luke is the only guy that I've been with. I know that I have to start over and move on but..I don't know..." 

"I remembered when I fell in love with Hayden.." Amelia recounted.

"He was the same age as you but he made me feel special in some way. He was the person that cared about everyone and he did everything he can to make that person smile. Until, he started dating Julia. It hurt but that Hayden was happy. What was I supposed to do? I know that this situation is different with your situation but what I'm trying to say is that if I can move on, you can too. Sometimes taking risks and making mistakes is better than not knowing at all." Amelia finishes and I smile softly.

"Thanks Amelia..."

Suddenly, the front door crashed open and it was Luke and behind him was Miracle. Luke rushed towards me and slapped me across the face. Amelia instantly got up and pushed Luke away.

"What's wrong with you?!!" Amelia screamed but Luke wasn't finished.

"Don't you dare make MY WIFE cry! I can't believe you Vanessa, you really changed after I broke up with you...first you bailed on our wedding and now, you make my wife cry? Wow...you have some ner-"

"You shut up Luke and listen." Amelia interrupted. "You have no right to slap Vanessa across the face and you have no right to attack her. She still loves you and cares for you but yesterday was killing her. Put yourself in her shoes and tell me that you would've done the same damn thing! Pretending to smile while seeing the love of your life with someone else? Doesn't that hurt?" 

Luke stayed quiet until Miracle grabs his arm and whispers to him.

"Lets go honey..." 

Both of them walked away while I stared at the floor. Everything was spiraling out of control and I hate being in the middle of this. Amelia closed the door behind them and sighed.
