"What do you mean no? We have to do something!"
The older vampire picked at his short nails, ignoring me which only made my temper flare.
"You can't seriously suggest that we do nothing. Have you no heart at all?!"
A sigh escaped his lips and I couldn't help but have this sudden urge to leap over the table and snap his neck. How could he be so cold? After all this was his kind at stake too plus his home town.
For the past half hour, Marius had been sitting there listening to me rant away yet he'd hardly muttered a word. I didn't know what annoyed me more, the fact I had been roped into helping or the fact the vampire before me seemed less than a little uninterested.
He seemed completely at ease which pissed me off to no end.
"I have to agree with your chatty friend here, bunny boy."
Spinning round, I came face to face with Rosá. Not her too. This was her family!
As if she could read my thoughts she smiled slightly. It had began to creep me out how just by smiling, a sense of calm washed over us though it didn't seem to faze Marius at all.
He was slouching in the chair, feet resting on top of the table.
"You suggest we sit back and wait for this... monster to come and strike again? That's your marvelous plan?"
Rosá nodded. "It only seems fitting to do so. After all I haven't heard from other towns that people are being slaughtered."
"We lie in wait and then kill the bastard when he's not looking."
"And how do you propose we make him come here again? Hmm?"
I crossed my arms over my chest and gave them both a look that spoke volumes. It seemed Marius looked a little uncomfortable with my question and I suddenly felt a little unsure whether I wanted to hear the answer.
"We use bait of course." Rosá shrugged as if it was no big deal. "We use you."
My jaw dropped and I turned to give Marius a pleading look yet he refused to meet my gaze. It seemed his pocket knife was suddenly way more interesting than it appeared to be.
So this is what they had been up to the last couple of days? Charming.
"Why me? I'm the least strongest out of us all!"
The older vampire let out a dramatic sigh. "You look more human than we do for a start... your heart beats and you don't exactly smell like one of us."
"Plus you act more human than us both put together." Marius piped up, eyes still cast down.
I couldn't stop the growl of anger leaving me and before I could stop myself, my fist was flying into the table, cracking it.
The two vampires watched with mild curiosity, their expressions stony as ever.
"So this is your compromise? Use me as bait and then step in like I'm Some damsel in distress! How fucking rude."
Rosá shook her head. "This is the first thing we could think of that might actually work. You want to find whoever is killing our kind too, don't you?"
Oh no you don't, I thought to myself, no way are you guilt tripping me.
"Not like this I don't!" I gestured to the front door. "I wanted nothing more than to live in peace and yet now I'm being used as some sort of part in a plan that probably won't even work!"
