*WARNING: CHAPTER CONTAINS TORTURE SCENE.*

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

It was all I could hear as I laid there staring up at the chandelier, not blinking as my thoughts wandered. Everyone else was still downstairs somewhere, sipping at wine and laughing about the good old days. I was exhausted and when I said I was going to bed I half expected Noah to snicker and make some job about how much of a baby I was for even suggesting such a thing but instead, he was unusually quiet.

Marius... not so much.

He pouted when I told him I wanted to head to bed and I knew he wanted to stay so ended up ordering him to stay put and that I was very capable of going up a flight of stairs, which I was... After having to stop about four times on the way up.

The tightness in my chest only seemed to get worse the more I thought about my impending doom so I tried to distract myself during dinner by striking up a conversation with the witch eating quietly and sipping on brandy.

Killian.

At first he didn't even bat an eyelash in my direction, clearly ignoring me until there was a soft thud from under the table and I watched him jump slightly whilst sending his sister a look. She returned it full force and I smiled down at my food before hearing the man clear his throat and finally acknowledge me.

Unfortunately our conversation about poetry hadn't done anything but make me yearn for a good book and a quiet place to curl up in so with a sigh, I announced that I was tired and that I hoped they enjoy the rest of the evening before slipping out the dining room and slowly heading to the room given to me and Marius.

Something in the back of my head alarm bells were ringing but I pushed that feeling aside and rolled onto my stomach, huffing with annoyance.

I knew better than to sit and dwell on the past but I couldn't shake the feeling that Marius having sex with a minor wasn't all he had been up to before I met him. I couldn't work out why he hadn't told me, and the more I thought the more I realized that I barely knew anything about him at all.

Date night, the monster purred and I had to agree, that sounded lovely and it would give us an opportunity to really get to know each other, mentally, we already knew each others bodies well by now.

A blush crept onto my cheeks and the smallest of smiles graced my lips. The last time we were intimate was before our journey to Texas and I had conflicted feelings about it all. On one hand I was in no mood to play and I understood why he wasn't, after all my time was limited but on the other hand I also wanted Marius to fuck my brains out whilst he still could.

For the past few days I hadn't been able to get the thought of him balls deep inside me, out of my head and if that wasn't bad enough Marius was walking around without a shirt on most of the time because it was as hot as the desert itself in this house.

The sun was slowly creeping above the horizon and I knew I should have been fast asleep by now and yet my thoughts just kept racing.

What was I going to do if I couldn't get out of this bed ever again? It was a thought that unsettled me to the core. My bones ached, my muscles sore and my eyes heavy with exhaustion. It seemed all I did nowadays was sleep my life away or think about sleeping whenever I was awake.

Marius had noticed, and I know Noah had too. They thought I didn't know they crept off in the middle of the day to talk to one another about me, and for once, it wasn't in a sinister, bitchy way either. They honestly seemed worried and that grounded me just a little.
