I rolled onto my back with an irritated grunt.
Since that day I hadn't been able to sleep right, thoughts of the killer and the conversation with Marius still fresh in my mind.
My sleep had been out of sync, leaving me to toss and turn for hours before finally being exhausted enough to drop off. I was left to my own devices, being the only one up whilst the others were either sleeping or out.
Maybe it was due to sexual frustration or maybe fear, either way I couldn't stop thinking about Marius or the killer that seemed to be getting closer and closer to having me as his next victim.
When I did finally drift off to sleep, it would be broken; images of the crime scene haunting my thoughts, my mind conjuring up images of a faceless killer.
Sighing, I sat up in bed and ripped the covers down. The sun was creeping in through the crack in the curtain and I could hear birds chirping away outside yet it did little to calm my temper.
I would be on night duty again and yet the two older vampire's didn't even bat an eyelid. Rosá would brush off my logic with the flick of her wrist and Marius... He would just stay quiet, refusing to look at me.
He was pissed. Hell, they were both pissed.
They didn't understand why I wouldn't drink from humans, didn't get that once I took a sip I would go completely off the rails.
It had been over fifty years since I had sunk my fangs into a human and yet the monster inside me was always near by, ready to consume me when I have a moment of weakness.
God, what I would give to have just one drop though...
I shivered, refusing to relive the horrible memories of my past. Cassandra came to mind then and it didn't do anything but worsen my mood.
Fucking vampires, they are all the same, I thought with a scowl.
With a grumbled complaint I then flopped back onto the bed and closed my eyes, pleading for sleep to take me.
"Hey."
Snapping from my dwindling thoughts, I turned to find the vampire in question standing by the door, lingering.
"What?" I snapped.
Marius ignored my tone and took that as his queue to come deeper into the room, a strange look on his face.
"You seem stressed, what's got your panties in a twist, little vampire."
I swallowed back a growl of annoyance and sunk deeper into the mattress. "I can't sleep."
Marius shut the door behind him before prowling deeper into the dark room and coming to sit on the edge of the bed.
He was so close. So close that I could reach out and trail my fingertips down his naked back.
"Aren't you supposed to be outside patrolling?"
"Supposed to be but I'm not. Won't harm Rosá to pull her weight for once."
I couldn't help but smile slightly. Those two really didn't get along, though they did have their moments.
"Have you seen the killer yet?"
It had been a week and yet there had been no sign of the monster and though the killings had stopped, the taste of danger was in the air, causing everyone to be on edge still.
How long would we have to wait before another body turned up?
He shook his head and brought me from my thoughts. His eyes darkened as I then watched his gaze wander down my body to stray to my crotch before trailing back up.
