I jumped out of Jared's stupid truck and stomped up to the stupid hotel. It was at least 3 levels high, painted an eggshell yellow color. I frowned, not wanting to necessarily stay here. I have no choice in the matter though. We will leave eventually. I sighed, my backpack weighing me down, and my shoes worn and ripped up. I held Hoagie's leash at my side as he stared at me. I looked over at him.
"Traitor." I hissed at him. Hoagie just barked at me. I narrowed my eyes in challenge. Stephen walked up beside me and stopped, looking up at the hotel.
"It's pretty cool." Stephen said, shrugging. I turned my head, glaring, my left eye twitching. He furrowed his eyebrows. "Ok then. It's not pretty cool." He said with a sheepish smile. My face softened and I started laughing.
"I am in such a bad mood." I said, still laughing. I wiped my eyes, ceasing my laughter. "It's been a good week." I said casually, not noticing Stephen's weird smile. We were waiting for Jared, but only a minute of silence passed when he walked up with his bag. I opened the right glass door, turning suddenly when I heard wheels on gravel. I saw that faded firecracker red Station wagon pull up next to Jared's truck. I rolled my eyes and walked in. A doctor rudely stopped me. I was confused.
"Is this your whole group?" He asked. I shook my head.
"No." Stephen answered. Jenessa, Julie, Ella, and Riley walked in behind us, seemingly just as confused as I was. The elder doctor finally spoke, and what he said, I was not happy with.
"I'm sorry, I know this isn't the best welcome, but I must check your eyes and your tonsils before services can be offered." He stated. That's odd, it's only been four days, can they already know what to look for? Perhaps.
"Of course." Riley said. I just frowned and turned around.
"Of course." I mimicked her in an unflattering voice under my breath.
"Lila?" Stephen asked from behind me. I stood up straight again, and turned around.
"What?" I asked sweetly, wondering if I got caught bad mouthing Riley. I tried to seem innocent, batting my eyelashes and holding my hands behind my back. Stephen's face turned red. He turned back towards the group. "Are you ok?" I asked, suddenly wondering if he heard me.
"Yeah, but we've all been checked except you." He said, not facing me.
"Ok!" I said, suddenly energetic, skipping up to the doctor. "Hurry it up egghead." I said, opening my eyes wide. The doctor seemed rather insulted with the name egghead, but pulled out a flashlight and shined it in my eyes. I opened my mouth and it seemed I was perfectly fine. Knew it.
We were lead to our rooms by the doctor and military personnel. Outside our rooms, the two beings said their farewell and wished us happy visitings and left.
Ella and Riley went into their room after Ella announced she was tired, Julie and Jared threw their bags in their rooms, and went back towards the stairs.
"So what do we do?" Jenessa asked, twirling the keys to our room around her finger. I shrugged. I was still so tired and mad.
"It's getting dark. We should probably just go to sleep." Stephen suggested. Jenessa nodded her head in agreement, while I stared blankly at the door. Jenessa unlocked the door, I walking in first.
"Why life!?" I yelled in question. I turned my head away and pointed to the only bed in the room. Jenessa and Stephen stared at me, confused. I sat on the floor, and held my backpack to my face. "NO!" I yelled into my backpack. Hoagie started howling with me.
