Alex and Johan left in mid-January for the north of Denmark. The weather was not real cooperative which made training even more challenging then what they had been expecting making them wish they had signed up during the summer.
Every morning the drill sergeant got the soldiers up early for exercises followed by breakfast. Followed by shooting/marksmanship until lunch, after which they spent time in a classroom learning military history and tactics before going out for a ten mile run with full gear. When dinner time came the soldiers were usually too tired to eat but they couldn't call it a day because it wasn't over yet, they still had to clean their equipment and get ready to do it all over again in the morning. This happened every single day seven days a week for sixteen weeks. It was the most boring and exhausting part of Alex's entire life. Johan often sarcastically thanked Alex for bringing him along on this super "fun" trip.
When they finally finished basic training Johan and Alex were sent to separate units. Johan went to Eastern Denmark and was assigned to an infantry unit, and Alex stayed in the northern section to be part of a specialized intelligence group. Not that there were very many groups who wanted to "terrorize" Denmark, but they still had an intelligence unit to help prevent it. Denmark tried to remain neutral in major events, but since they had joined NATO there were some responsibilities and the Danish felt that they should be prepared.
Each day was basically the same in the unit, no excitement. They were occasionally sent out into the freezing cold snow or rain so they could work on their surveillance skills. Running was still part of Alex's day no matter what the weather had in store for him.
During the two years in the Army Alex saw his family rarely, but was always happy when he got to see them. Life there was a constant source of happiness without their love and support he didn't think he would have been able to survive. When his tour ended after twenty-eight months Alex debated resigning up but ultimately knew military life wasn't for him. However, it had given him an incredibly muscular body, something he hadn't previously possessed. When he walked into his family home that afternoon he finally knew what he wanted, what his life plan was going be.
"Papa, momma I'm home!" Alex exclaimed happily.
"Alexander!" Little Lena yelled jumping into his arms and giving him welcomed baby kisses.
"Welcome home son!" His father said giving him a hug followed by his beautiful mother.
"Oh Alexander we are so happy you have returned safely home, finally." Alex's mother said.
That night Alex enjoyed a wonderful family dinner of his favorite dish that his dad had made special, Coq au Vin. It was so nice to be home again Alex debated if he would ever leave again. That night he had a long talk with his parents before going to bed.
"I want to get back into the business." Alex said.
"Do you mean acting or modeling?" His mother asked.
"Both." Alex answered simply.
"I can set up a meeting with my agent if you want?" His father said.
"That would be great, thank you." Alex answered.
"I need someone in a shoot later this week." His mother said.
"Done!" Alex answered.
"Alexander, are you sure this is what you want?" His mother asked.
"I've never been so sure in my life. I plan to pursue this with everything I can." Alex answered honestly.
