Gia lay in the immense bed all alone unable to sleep.  She was feeling nervous, anxious and a million other things.  Every time she closed her eyes all she could see were images of her making love with Jack.  The excitement of the dream kept coming back to her like waves of mini orgasms.  These thoughts made her very confused because she knew she loved Alex, but why was she having thoughts about another guy.  Gia couldn't help but ask herself if it was really possible to love two men at the same time.  Diane would know the answer Gia was sure of that fact.  But what to do in the mean time?  It would be best if she could just ignore the thoughts about Jack and just concentrate on how she felt about Alex and her growing baby.  After tossing and turning over and over again Gia finally decided to get out of bed, she walked over to her balcony doors and looked out over the river.  Gia decided that she would rather see it from outside and the thought that maybe the cold air would help her want to sleep and as a bonus freeze out the thoughts of Jack.  She grabbed the thick blanket off the bed and went outside and sat in one of the chairs looking out over the river.  Gia sat and looked at the stars across the cold Danish sky and realized that if she could only think of Jack as a priest and not a man things would be just fine.  As Gia sat there in the chilly air snow began to fall in big thick flakes.  Watching the snow fall all around her made Gia begin to feel very sleepy and finally content with what was about to happen.  Gia was actually feeling for the first time in two weeks that this was the right thing for her and Alex.  This marriage and baby were her destiny. Gia got up from the chair and walked back toward the doors to go inside not paying much attention thinking about the wedding and her new found excitement of being with Alex.  She went to step across the threshold but missed the step tripping over the blanket and falling forward desperately flailing her arms hoping to catch herself but she missed the door frame.  Gia fell face first onto the hard wood floor unable to put her hands out to catch herself.  Gia don't know how long she had laid there stunned, winded, and unable to move because she passed out.  When Gia finally woke her head was pounding.  She sat up slowly lightly feeling her head.  She felt a large bump and some blood right at her hair line which she confirmed when she looked at her fingers after she touched her wound.  Then she felt something wet and sticky on her cold legs.   At first she thought it was just from the snow that had blown in with the open door, but as she slowly got up and walked carefully to the bathroom, her ankle and foot throbbing from the pain, thoughts drifted to the baby.  Was she losing her baby?  Gia sat on the toilet to check the bleeding and there was a large amount, as she sat there she began to have some cramping, light at first followed by increased blood flow.  Gia didn't know what to do or who to call she just sat there as the abdominal cramps increased to an almost unbearable pain.  Who could she call?  Gia wondered if she should call Alex or her parents.  She finally decided to call Diane she would know what to do.

"How bad is it?" She asked coming through the door with a sleepy Anne and Janice right behind her.

"It hasn't stopped yet." Gia said, "Neither have the cramps.  But it isn't getting worse." Gia complained holding her flat stomach.

"We need to get you to hospital." Diane decided and Anne grabbed Gia's coat and purse before they helped her down to the lobby.

"We need a taxi." Diane said to the bell man who immediately whistled for one that had been idling a few feet away.  The four girls climbed in and Diane told him to take them to the nearest hospital.  They arrived there in a matter of minutes.  There weren't very many patients at 2 am so Gia was taken back to an exam room right away.  Gia explained about the fall and how she didn't know how long she had been laying there in the open doorway before waking up.

"Are you pregnant?" The doctor asked.

"Yes about seven weeks." Gia answered trying not to cry.

"We will do a full workup, bandage your head and ankle, and make sure you have no other injuries.  We will do what we can to check the baby but it is very early and hard to say whether you will miscarry or not. Okay?"  Gia nodded in agreement and the doctor walked away.  Gia wasn't sure what they would do for the baby, but she feared the doctor would tell her that the baby was lost forever.  If Gia was losing the baby there was no need for her to go through with the wedding.  Alex and Gia could go on with their lives and never have to speak of this again.  After a few x-rays the doctor returned to Gia's exam room, "Well you have a sprained ankle and a few contusions, but we will need to do an ultrasound to see if the placenta is detaching.  If it is detached then it will be a matter of the uterus expelling the sac and the pregnancy will be terminated."  The doctor explained.
